anyone know another way to add shortcut to desktop?

Just upgraded to Android ICS B952
I want to put a shortcut on the desktop but no can do

Usually route is:

Hold Home screen > Add shortcut
or
Open Browser>Hold Shortcut > Add to Homescreen

none of these are available

anyone know another way to add shortcut to desktop?

First bookmark it in the browser. Then return to the homescreen and press-and-hold (in an empty space) to bring up the menu and select 'shortcut' then 'bookmark' and select the desired bookmark.

App Drawer > Widgets tab > Bookmark - 'pick' this up from the Widgets drawer abd then drop it in a space on the desktop.

It's not the most obvious of procedures - it's one of the very few areas the User Interface has taken a step backwards between 2.x and 4.x.
