Another series featuring underachievers and freaks.
What started out as a very good series many years ago, has become a freak show to feed Sugar's massive ego. Of course we all know that, but people watch it anyway. Not because they want to see who wins, because we know it'll be the one no one expects. The viewing public just want to see who messes up every week and gets shouted at by Sugar in the board room.
Stella English exposed what a nonsense this process is. So have fun watching all the dullards (that includes Sugar).

I very much doubt that Lord Sugar has that much say in the selection process for the candidates.
It was quite clear last year that he wouldn't have given Jade's proposal the time of day, and he wasn't that enamoured with Nicks idea either. It was pretty obvious that they had been chosen because the producers thought they had the potential to be "good TV". This year, he has seen their business plans, so he is interested on what they are offering.... But I'd be very surprised if he chose the final 16...... The producers want to make a good show, and imagine if there were 16 Tom Pellereaus / Helen Milligans / Stella Englishes....... The programme would be as boring as hell..... They need the deluded idiots like Baggs, Melissa and Melody for the entertainment factor..... |

In the Radio Times, at the start of this series, he was quoted as saying he was involved once they had whittled the numbers down to 100 and that he looked at all the business plans. I guess they are keen to exclude people whose business plan amounts to "please sponsor me through uni"
They should inform the viewers also what their business plans are so we can assess them . |

I'd be amazed if Sugar wasn't involved in some way. Quote:

I just get a feeling now the candidates are chosen purely for entertainment value and that takes the gloss away from the show. You ask yourself, why would Alan Sugar want to hire these people? It was the same with Big Brother after BB4 it became a freak show to get viewers. Out of interest, how many of the previous Apprentice winners are still employed by Sugar? |

That's interesting . So I'm guessing the business plans would be a deciding factor in choosing the 16 to appear on the programme.
They should inform the viewers also what their business plans are so we can assess them . There's no change otherwise in how they cast it over the series. There's always been total incompetents, one or two really high flyers who he normally won't employ anyway, some pretty able people who will go far, or go out to someone he wants, some loudmouths with no ability, some loudmouths who might turn out to be very capable but who he won't take a risk with in the final choice, and some also rans and cannon fodder. The two series that were won by the relative higher flyers hardly turned out to be much of a success for him. This series is interesting below the surface because there may be some perms on the usual characters. Some of the characters may look like one thing, and turn out to be something else - some of the stereotypes may have real ability and he may just have a high flyer who he can do business with. That said the males do look unusually weak, and the females do look relatively strong, this series - even if the results don't follow that. |

They should inform the viewers also what their business plans are so we can assess them . OP - shame you feel that way, but I don't think what you're saying holds much water. They've had really quite competent candidates for pretty much the whole of S7 and S8, and Stella's lawsuit doesn't really expose anything about the show, since nobody's been getting prizes like Stella's since 2010. Current batch do feel rather less cohesive than some of the last few series, but they're hardly a typical cast at the moment. Freaks, poss, but frankly, Myles Mordaunt's CV alone threatens to dispel the "underachievers," bit. If they're underachievers, I'm practically catatonic! |

They seem to be doing that in You're Fired, this series. Dara's asked both fired candidates what their business was.

My point is this show is about becoming Sugar's apprentice, which implies a more closer relationship than in reality where the winner is parachuted into a non-role and left to prove their worth. Again I ask the question how many former Apprentice winners are still employed with Sugar? |
