Belief in Astrology - the first sign of mental retardation?

I had a feeling I would laugh at Sly Stallone's Mom as soon as she announced she could tell a person's future by reading their arse, I have not been disappointed.

Now I am laughing even harder as she tells people about astrology. I firmly believe that if you ever even consider astrology as being anything but a load of horse**** then you have severe mental problems.

Based on this entirely valid assumption is it right that they allow an elderly woman with a severe mental illness to embarrass herself on national television?

Another important question that must be asked is whether Caprice suffers the same low IQ/ mental illness as Jackie or is she simply humouring the old woman?

How do you know she has a mental illness? Are you a doctor?

she believes in astrology, therefore she is mentally ill, if you dispute this then I'd diagnose you with the same problem. Although I'm not a doctor I have had this discussion with a friend who is and he accepts the theory that people who believe in made up rubbish like this definately have an inability to cope with the real world and that is a definition of at least being borderline mentally ill.

same as beleiving in god? are all these fools mentally retarded too then?

you cant see the air you breath but you know it's there..?
you cant see electricity but if you touch it you will know for sure..?

Well, it's not that much different from believing in a religion. And making important decisions based on little more than a sense of 'faith'.

for what is is worth I believe religion is a total joke too, purely there for people who cannot cope with the fact of their own death. Astrology though takes this form of idiocy to a whole new level.

Are those who follow a faith mentally ill too then?

people who belive in organised religion are fools, belief in a god is very different.

I can't see the air I breathe but I understand and can PROVE how it exists and works, the same goes for electricity.

faith is a huge risk, belief in astrology is just plain ignorant.

no, just deluded. They should think for themselves and explore concepts far more valid than some chinese whispers from old 'books'.

Sweeping generalisations and assumptions.

if anything Astrology makes more sense than an almighty leader sitting in heaven. Planet alignments are known to have physical affects on things, however minor, the moon does cause tide, and while not proven there are fair points to be made on how a full moon affects people.

It isn't complete crap that people with certain star signs share similar qualities. Astrology is easy to be ignorant about, but when you start looking into it, and paying attention to the subtle things around you and other people, it can make sense.

I'd say i'm an intelligent person, maybe i don't read bums, but not passing off Astrology doesn't make me retarded, its one of the few 'spiritual' or even 'religous' fields that has some scientific thought behind it. Anyway reading bums sounds silly, but its as valid a part of our body as our palms and face.

she looks mad, and so far sounds a bit mad.. but don't pass off people, just because they see life differently than you.

ok, I'll agree with you that there is scientific evidence that suggests being born at different times of the year affects certain human characteristics. However, astrology requires you to believe that a certain celestial event can cause 500 million people to have 'some to have great fortune on the 18th', this is absolute boll***s. To dispute that is simply ignorant of mathematics.

If only it was limited to being a money-making scam. Unfortunately wars are waged, countries are invaded, terrorist atrocities carried out, etc, all in the name of religion by its believers guided by their sense of divine justification and faith.

Astrology is pretty harmless. Religion isn't.

of course that's true, that aspect of things is rubbish, thats the cynical money making aspect of Astrology, but if you say you believe in Astrology it doesn't mean you have to believe in such examples as you say, or that whatever horoscope you read will come true. I personally don't believe in horoscopes in papers etc.. only personal readings are more significant, if given by someone who isn't out to rip you off.

most rip off artists are far from retarded, they're bright though ultimately shallow people.

Iwill accept general assumptions based upon a rough time period you are born. To suggest that 'personal readings' make sense is nonsense, although I respect the charlatans involved in such scams as I find abusing the lack of intelligence in the masses funny.

like i said there are charlatans, but there are actual people who know their stuff, i've met them in India where astrology is taken way more seriously, and i don't want to go into all the details, but i have come away from readings years on, and i'm no longer a sceptic. And real guys need more than rough time, they need it to the minute.. its hard to convince skeptics, its really something you need to experience for yourself, but i fully understand your doubts. the most important thing i've learnt is that its actually best not to find out anything about your future, or anything, just let life carry you along, which is actually the first thing i was told before i was given a reading. by the way, the genuine ones have other jobs, they shouldn't ask for money.

I don't believe in all that mumbo jumbo tbh, but theres definitely something in these 'Sun Signs'........ None of this trying to predict your future and bullcrap, more to do with your personality and traits........ it's remarkably accurate.

SOTV what makes you think that glancing at your horoscope in the Sun as you take your morning dump qualifies you to comment on real astrology?
It's more like you are ill of the mind assuming you know it all, no one can tell you anything. A true sign of the mentally ill, just like old John.
