Now I am laughing even harder as she tells people about astrology. I firmly believe that if you ever even consider astrology as being anything but a load of horse**** then you have severe mental problems.

Based on this entirely valid assumption is it right that they allow an elderly woman with a severe mental illness to embarrass herself on national television?

Another important question that must be asked is whether Caprice suffers the same low IQ/ mental illness as Jackie or is she simply humouring the old woman?”

Ah, you must be a Virgo...

Must say I agree with the thread starter, in a moderate, reasonable kind of way, of course.

Where's zzenzero, our resident astrologer ?

To dismiss astrology out of hand just smacks of ignorance. Sadly, the likes of charlatans like Mystic Meg only feed into and reinforce this ignorance.

True astrology - the study of personality and behaviour in accordance with planetary position - does have some merit.

I used to be very skeptical until I actually studied it properly. Star charts that are worked out given your exact date and time of birth and your geographic location can be amazingly accurate.

Why should this be? We don't really know. However, you cannot deny that the sun and moon have very powerful influences on the earth and there is certainly evidence to suggest that the phases of the moon can affect behaviour (hence words like lunatic) and that sunlight, or the lack of, is instrumental in mood disorders such as SAD.

It does not take a huge leap of faith to believe that the other planets may have some effect on us as well.

Sorry folks but to dismiss astrology out of hand is the only sensible option.

Astrology is complete horse***t - there is absolutely no scientific proof for it and anyone who claims it is based on some logical reasoning is totally ignorant of the truths.
The alignment of planets has ZERO effect on your life - but believing in such rubbish might do.

I am not going to go as far as some other on here and say anyone who believes in it is mental - but deluded or ignorant of the facts is true.

I almost split my sides when I read that 'some people know their stuff' - ok then why can they not prove it under scientific conditions?
Why hasn't anyone in known history being able to prove that astrology is any more accurate than chance?

The answer is simple, if painful for some of you, it is because it is all crap. The entire system relies on sweeping generalisations and gullible believers.

Doesn't sound any more of a problem than believing that Rap is a legitimate art form.

Frankly the old duck does have some problems, but ones that render the astrology issue a red herring. Problems such as her Tinseltown fear of her impending death, manifesting itself in years of plastic surgery, and even having the gall to refer to McCririck as "the old fella", like anyone believes for a moment that she's younger.

Give me your doctor friend's name/number and I will have them struck off immediately for making grotesque generalisations and talking out of their a**e. For what it's worth, I don't believe in astrology but I'm not such an iconoclast as to dispute others' beliefs and faiths and to dismiss people who don't share my viewpoint as being 'mentally ill'. I would go further to suggest that your inability to see anything other than your own narrow little field of vision would lead me to believe that you have more of a predisposition towards having an inability to cope with reality more than anyone else.

I agree with that. I don't believe in it personally. But to accuse someone who does of being mentally ill, is as ridiculous as calling someone who believes in God, mentally ill.

what a thread... jeez!

well, whatever your persuasion, one thing is certain and that is that there is reality and there is perceived reality. my reality is different to your reality. and like it or not we're all conditioned by the world we're born into which instills certain notions and belief systems not all of which are conscious to ourselves. i personally don't understand why someone would find it an honour to blow themselves up for example, moreso in the presence of other people of a different creed, but clearly this goes on.

i don't mind what people believe in or what they don't but see fit to harbour respect between people. occasionally i might learn from people with different views to my own, such as coming on this forum for a highly subjective tv programme.

being arrogant and ignorant is devoid of respect and closed to new perceptions that might help someone understand better. but people are different and varied, and as much as SOTV grates me and i think he's a right tosser, look at the discussion he's generated. i say 'he' as he clearly doesn't concern himself with the female menstrual cycle, which is greatly infuenced by the moon even though there is no hard scientific or logical proof of it.

neither is there any scientific or logical proof of respect, agreement, patience, arrogance, frustration, comedy, nor the effect that one person's actions has another, such as this thread starter. but it happens, it's part of the human design. we're all responsive, reactive & generative and don't really know about what else affects us and in what ways. so i'd say that astrology has some credibility even if i don't understand it myself.

SOTV read by arse, bitch.

To say people are metally retarded because they have a certain belief is just crass and insulting.
