We have 2 cats which we think are pregnant but we are not 100% sure so have come here for some advice.

1 of them has got very fat over the last 2 weeks and sleeps alot on her side and the other one my wife thinks she saw some movement in her belly yesterday.

so do they get fat fast when pregnant and if my wife saw movement on 1 of them how long after that could she give birth?

Yes, it sounds like the cat is very heavily pregnant. Once you see movement it is a matter of days. You should take them to see a vet urgently and read up on what to do, because you're going to have to help the cat through labour soon. Keep the cat in the house at all times from now on, because it could hide under a hedge to give birth and you could lose her and the kittens.

It does sound as if they are pregnant. As Pugamo said, keep them indoors from now on (try to keep them in after the birth right up until you have had them spayed. That could be up to 12 weeks indoors). It'll be difficult if they are used to being outside but it's the right thing to do. It's worth noting that they can be pregnant again within a week of giving birth.

If possible, switch them to kitten food. Read up on how to help them when it's time. The question all pet owners ask is "when will I know that they are in labour"...Trust me, you'll know! Their calls will be more frantic and they may become clingy. As cute as the kittens are, try not to handle them until your cat allows you too. We tried not to handle Winnie's kittens for a while because although we liked to think that she trusted us, they were her babies and she'd do anything to protect them.

If you have unmetered females that you let outdoors, it's quite likely their pregnant.

Op it does sound like they are pregnant, I'd recommend a vet check anyway. I'd also speak to the vet about spaying ASAP after the litter, the last thing anyone wants is another litter. What orange bird said may sound harsh but I can see her point. shelters are full to the brim with kittens from unexpected pregnancies, now it maybe that you intend to rename hours responsibly, but what about the next litter and the one after that and the one after that?

If you have un-spayed female cats and they go out they are very likely to end up pregnant.

OP said it was both his cats as well?? Not sure (unless OP is wanting to breed his cats - and it doesn't sound like he does) why anyone would let their sexually mature and non-nutured cats out

As others say call a vet ASAP, and as soon as you can get both females spayed.

Also please make sure you responsibly rehome and kittens that arrive.

Oh and you won't have to be a midwife for kitty

Just make sure they have somewhere safe, warm and dark they can go and they will do the rest themselves.

You really shouldn't interfere and same goes when kittens arrive.

Any news???? My neighbours very young cat had her kittens under my bed. Long story. I didn't even know she was there. She did really well and was extremely proud of herself, as was I. Photos please? But as the others have said please make sure the kitty's go to good homes.

How sad, sincerely hope the pair with be spayed or kept as indoor cats after these litters.

I'd talk to your vet or rescue about what to expect, or join a cat specific forum.
I'd also start thinking hard about how you're going to find good homes for all these kittens, how you will afford all the worming and flea treatment, vaccinations etc.

It does all sound strange. Why arent they neutured? If the op didnt neuter them so they could breed them then they should know about pregnancy. If they couldnt afford it then they cant afford the possibility of raising 12 more kittens. If they couldnt be arsed then they shouldnt have pets if they arent going to look after them.

The fact is kittens can be hard to rehome. If both cats are pregnant then thats double the amount. If you cant rehome them all then you have to pay to keep them all or most likely dump them at the shelter where they can spend months in a cage. Not a nice life really is it? But then at least they will be neutured so no other kittens have to go through it.

Im sorry if its harsh but i dont know why people dont bother getting their cats neutured. For the sake of saving all of £20 its just ridiculous.

£20 to neuter 2 female cats??! What vet do you go to?! (unless you are on welfare and get it for a knock down price!)

if your on tax credits the cats protection in n i let you get your cat spayed for £5.

It's £18 per make £22 per female here, no benefits needed. RSPCA also do neuter vouchers (as do cats protection) and many charities run drives with discounted spaying.

Besides, if you can't afford £20 to spay then you shouldn't have cats, kittens will cost a hell of a lot more.

*cries* not at my vets, was £30 per female and that was 8 years ago It was £35 or £40 for my boy 2 years ago.

You lot got lucky. Both my boy cat and girl cat being "done" cost me £60 each time!

The cost of neutering should be considered before you even think about having a cat....

I dread to think how much it costs to get a girl done near me now as it's normally double plus a bit extra than it is for a boy!

(this is why I would only consider getting a boy cat in future as I have to factor in neutering costs)

then DON'T take them to the RSPCA then. Lots of other places will take kittens in without killing them like the RSPCA do.

its awful what does happen to both animals and humans in places,but my family of humans and animals are very happy,and I do know we are very lucky.

I dont have cats and do work thank you. I do however know that with vouchers and cats protection you can get a lot taken off the price. Plus if you look around you can get a deal for two cats.

The rspca and cats protection are keen to keep cats neutured so will pay towards the cost if you contact them.

That's not the whole of it thoug (The RSPCA) It's the fact there are thousands if not millions of cats living in shelters. Some shelters euthanise some don't. The ones that don't tend to be filled up and the cats that could be placed there but can't end up either getting abandoned and sicken then have to be put to sleep or get put to sleep anyway as there are no places left to take them.



Glad to hear that have a nice loving environment. Sadly there are not enough places like yours for all the cats that exist in this country
