...back at the start of series one? I wonder this, it could be possible. I mean its not really something that happens in real life... You don't swap the players in two football teams coz one of them is getting thrashed...

I'd imagine it was always designed to be that way. Showing how different people interact on a team is a good way to keep things reasonably fresh along with the tasks. There's also a need to keep the teams level for practical purposes as well. It does make the teams (and team names) rather arbitrary though, I'll agree on that.

Interestingly in the US Apprentice they keep the teams the same (Boys v Girls) for much longer, which allows you to see how relationships between the team members develop etc which can potentially be really interesting. I'm not sure it would work on UK Apprentice though as it needs to change up the teams every once in a while to keep it fresh. You do still see the opposite teams interacting with each other quite alot in US apprentice though, as there's usually a large focus on the bits in the 'war room' after the task and boardroom is finished, and there's often fights between opposite teams etc

That only really happened in Season 1, before they had worked out how the programme would work. The only occasions after that when a team had two more candidates on one team were Net Worth over Magna in Week 4 (6 v 8) and Week 6 (5 v 7) in Season 3 and it has stayed even for the most part. When Apex were losing in the early stages of Season 2, he still ported Pamela over to them in Week 5.

I would rather see the teams get mixed up along the way. It can be so wearing when two people really dont get along, and if the same dynamic happens every week I get fed up of seeing it. I prefer people who really dont get along to be split up, so we can see if they are like that with everyone or if they have other skills but are just being triggered by specific people.

Same for people who are being supported by others - moving them over and making them stand on their own feet and show if they can do it or not - but that happens less often than a personality clash.
