am in process getting rid my Technisa freesat and re-investing in another HDR 320Gb from humax as i had before, before buying the freetime, the freetime is staying put in front room as main box but will b putting the HDR in back room to replace rubbish technisat (takes forever to populate epg) it will b run via 1 cable and linked, my question is what are the advantages of installing custom firmware over the original firmware and also where can i get the custom firmware from.

cheers

The main thread is hosted on another forum (sorry but not permitted to link to it) - try and search for
Media & File Server Bundle for the Foxsat HDR - Release 4,0 - PART 4
You need to read the first post which is kept up to date.

One advantage is that you can play media from it with your freetime unit.

After installing the Firmware and full wen interface - you need to install the Twonky application (DLNA server) from the web interface "Package Management page". Samba is neat as well - allows a Windows PC to see and Map the HDR's media as a network drive.

There is much more as well.
