Cat obsessed with water
Leicester_Hunk

As soon as you go into the kitchen and turn on the tap, our cat Sally runs in and jumps on the worktops to get at the taps.

She does the same in the bathroom. She tries to get down the toilet, and has also jumped in the bath when it has been shallowly filled with water.

I thought all cats couldn't stand water!

Cats are funny when it comes to drinking, sorry to ask a daft question but do you put a bowl of water down for her?. My cat used to jump in the bath to lick the taps even though there was a bowl of the stuff available for her.

I've had great fun the last couple of days trying to keep my flat dry because my two stupid cats love going out in the rain, then coming in and plonking themselves down, usually on the sofa or my bed. They also don't appreciate me chasing them round with a towel in an attempt to dry them off!

Mine does the same. I assume only the outer layer of fur is actually wet so she'll dry off before her inner layer gets wet and she gets cold. Nevertheless I don't want her sopping wet coat rubbing up against me!

Cats like very VERY fresh water. Dogs have specific taste buds for water, whereas humans don't. I wonder if it's the same for cats. Water to us that we think is okay, might taste "off" to a cat. They do have a tendency for running water. Your cat is behaving perfectly normally in that respect.

Sounds like Sally's just having fun, but if anyone notices their cat suddenly drinking more water than usual, it can be a sign of a problem with their kidneys.

We've got one of those too. I pray to god the neighbours never get a water feature, we may never see him again.

One of the buggers is longhaired as well, came in literally dripping! He was not impressed with me grabbing him in a towel and drying him off! I took some pics of him at the time, he was properly sulking as you can see

Hiding himself in the towel (or trying to get out the other side!)

He was not my friend for the rest of the evening!

Yes she has plenty of water, we have four cats and there are always two large bowls left out all the time for them. She just seems to like the attraction of running water!

She does drink out of the bowl as well but seems to prefer the running alternative!!!!

Can you tell mine that? She prefers 'old' water. I have a couple of pots in the garden which fill up with rain water or I top up with the hose. One of her indoor water bowls gets filled up from a bottle - no it isn't bought bottled water I fill a glass bottle up from the tap. I think it is the chlorine she doesn't like, so she prefers it once it has disappeared. As for getting wet, if she gets caught in the rain, she comes in crying and I have to dry her off.

My cat is also obsessed with water so much so that he fell in the pond

Three of my four cry at me when they come in after it's been raining, but only one will let me dry her. The other two find the palest furnishings possible and happily sit there grooming themselves. When they move, it's like I've dumped the settee throw in a mud puddle. I must add, they never sit on the settee throw normally - they've got various pet blankets in strategically comfy places that they sleep on.

The fourth one's a little scaredy cat and hardly goes outside, so she'll only go out if I go to the back step with her. If it's threatening rain, she won't go past the back step - I have to go out and show her I'm not getting wet so it's okay for her to go too, then she trots out and goes to her grass-eating corner. If it IS raining, she watches me get rained on and then turns around and goes back in. Cheeky little devil.

Just got some Cat Mint for my cat to roll in when he is in the garden. I showed it to him and he started eating it and then started acting a bit strange like he was on drugs

My Henry is exactly the same, he even loves to paddle and often comes in with soaked and dirty paws. He just seems to be obsessed with it. My Tabitha (17yrs old) is very fussy and will only drink water if its straight out of the tap indoors but is happy to drink from dirty puddles outside! My other two moggies are normal, well fairly normal!
