Courgettes are one of my favourite vegetables right now. I love them cut in to slices, and baked in the oven with olive oil, garlic and dried oregano - delicious!

Any other courgette lovers here?

Yes love them just simply steamed.

Also their big cousins marrows are back in the shops (must be foreign) are lovely too.

Big fan. We grow so many every year I've had to invest in a specific courgette cookery book. I like to marinade very thin strips in olive oil and balsamico and eat them raw.

They make good chutney too and courgette cake is very moist.

Yes, we had them yesterday with mushrooms and pasta. I also put them in Spanish-type tortillas and couscous dishes etc.

I like marrows but rarely see them on sale.

Ooh, I'll have to try steamed (and raw for that matter) courgettes next time. Sounds delicious!

Bah! Courgettes! They are the devil's cucumbers.

Take five pounds of raw courgettes.
Feed them to the pig
Repeat daily
After 1 year, kill the pig and turn it into bacon, sausages and black pudding.

I think I must have tried them about 30 years ago and didn't like them so I've never had any since

Until this week !

I've been trying lots of different veg for a healthy eating campaign

Bought 2 courgettes earlier this week and had one plain boiled with my spuds, cabbage and carrot...............I wasn't that keen to be honest though i did eat it all so it can't have been too bad

The second one i had sliced and fried with a curry............that was fine but I couldn't really taste it with the curry powder and chilli pickle drowning it out...........

Like everything, you can ones that are tastier than others. Some are almost creamy. Griddling in olive oil, pepper, salt and a bit of garlic makes them lovely. They're nice to top a gratin dish with, such as asparagus and courgette gratin. Yum!

Indeed. I always find the first two or three from every plant are the most buttery and flavourful.

They are alright in a primavera or something like that but of themselves they are pretty rubbish as far as vegetables go. Ditto marrows.

I like them as a veg. Around here in the supermarkets they come in packs of two and I only need one for a meal so I decided to quick pickle the other.

It works a treat.

Slice it into rounds. Add vinegar, salt, sugar, top up with water. You can add other herbs and spices.

Yes. I just boil them but not for too long, couple of minutes, as you don't want the centres too soft and mushy.

My brother slices his into strips and cooks them on the barbecue. They still taste ghastly, but at least they look nice.
