The need for more online comic swap sites
Being a keen comic collector for years now it saddens me when I see old comic stores dying out in the UK. When New York recently and it was refreshing to see the comic shops there still having a large stock of Back Issue Comics.
There a few left in the UK but have recently come across a site based in the UK to swap, buy and sell comics. www.swapmycomics.com. Free to join and looks pretty snazy! Good to see someone has had the idea to feel a gap in the market I for one think needs to be filled..

If you're going to promote your own site on here, at least be up front about it.

Awful spelling
The site is there to be felt! Ha.
I've only recently created the site so any advice is welcome. But I do think it does have a good basis just need to build up the users to get it all running. How does that sound and FEEL?

Joking aside I don't think it's a bad idea at all. It gives us another option for trading which is a good thing.
Me being pedantic but I think more info per comic should be a requirement, to avoid future conflicts between customers. For example this: http://www.swapmycomics.com/excalibur-issue-4.aspx I know that comic came out in about 2001 coz I bought it when I was in America back then. It's also Excalibur vol.2 (off the top of my head) and there have been about 4 volumes in total. So, ideally, the full info should be: Excalibur (volume 2) #4 (2001) - so buyers know exactly what they're getting - we all know cover images might not be exact in all cases! (even then, in this case, the cover doesn't give the date away...) http://www.swapmycomics.com/cable-issue-6.aspx - again, I think there have been 3 or 4 volumes of Cable... I'm sure that this is vol.2, vol.1 was a mini... I think the extra info should be mandatory and you'll save yourself a lot of hassle in future with it added because if anyone has any complaints they'll come to you as owner of the site to assist. |

Thanks for that, helpful bit of advice. I did think that also, was going to ask the seller in the description when they go to post a comic to pur as much info asbpossible about the comic. Might add another couple of fields though.
I so think there is a need for this sort of site though. Just got to build up the users now to get all the swapping and selling working. |

Iron out the creases before promoting it on sites like Bleeding Cool, CBR etc. or they'll tear you apart...
![]() Seriously, though. You need it testing etc. But better to get it working with all issues sorted before having loads of users jump on board or, in theory, you could put off people by promoting an unfinished, untested, product... ETA: "Instead, our site acts a venue to allow anyone to offer, sell, and buy just about anything, at anytime" You might want to check that the cut n pasted T&Cs are actually valid for what you're doing... I'm fairly sure that you have to take some, if not all, responsibility for stuff being listed... Even other, big name, "middle man" sites accept some accountability for what goes on on their websites... |
