A teaser image has been shown but more details and information on the game will be revealed soon (probably on monday or the monday after). What do you guys think so far? Will you be getting the game when it comes out? For me, I think I will probably be giving it a miss.

I have no interest in a Wii U, so sadly, for the first time in years, I won't be giving SEGA any money for their Sonic games. Real smart move going exclusive!

Probably was a smart move to be honest.

Every Sonic game released on the Wii outsold the PS3+360 versions combined.

Even the recent Sonic Racing Transformed game sold more on Wii U than the PS3 or 360......even though there are only about 2.5 million Wii U's out there vs 75 million+PS3'S and 75 million + 360's.

Sonic games simply sell far,far better on Nintendo platforms.

Do you have a source for this? I can't get my head around the Wii U bit!

Can I get some numbers confirming this? The sales of the games DO sell better on the Wii but to the extent of PS3 and Xbox 360 versions combined? No, their second best selling platform in the PS3 in recent years with the Xbox 360 just below that (despite the Xbox 360 having exclusives such as Sonic Free Riders).

Just found their end of year financial report from a few days ago.

http://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/p...10_e_final.pdf

1.36 million copies of Transformed sold, and they have two Wii U titles which together have sold 310k.

So if they sold 0 copies of The Cave then that is 22.79% share of sales for Wii U.

I'm pretty much in the same situation, I'm not interested in the Wii U either. I'll also be missing out on the next Sonic game which is announced since the next three Sonic games (including this and the Sochi Olympics) will be exclusive to Nintendo. I was actually disappointed with the news.

Great news and more motivation to pick up a Wii U. I will be getting Lost World when it comes about along with a Wii U console. If Tuesday goes well then I'll be all set with a Nextbox and Wii U for next gen. I just can't imagine missing out on all those Nintendo exclusives as well as these Sonic games!

I'm glad its motivating you to get a WiiU, if i didn't already have one an exclusive Sonic would convince me to get one as well

Just out of interest what went wrong with the PS4 conference that they aren't a consideration and what would need to go right with the xbox conference to make you get one?

I will get a PS4 eventually as I always get all of the consoles at one point or other. I just don't want to spread myself too thin next gen, Wii U and Nextbox will be more than enough for me as I'm much more attached to Microsoft's exclusives than I am Sony's.

Fair enough, I'm just glad that WiiU made the cut for you, the more people that get one the better

As for this new Sonic, I just hope they have learned their lessons from the past few bad sonics (not including generations which was great) and they just make this new game as close to Sonic Adventure (if not SA3) as possible

They need to go back to basics with the characters as well i mean:
big the cat: who the hell thought playing as a mentally challenged creature fishing for a frog in Sonic Adventure would be fun
Rouge the bat: A Pink and white bat that is a secret agent for the government, how the hell do you come up with something that incredibly stupid

Could we not just have a sonic game, where you need to complete a series of Zones as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles and to get the proper ending you need to complete seven special stages for Chaos Emeralds and get Super (character) and finish the game

Wouldn't a 3d re-vamp of the original Sonic be nice? Well, more than just nice, but it'll never happen.

I don't think SA3 will be happening anytime soon. I also agree about the fishing stages, they were awful but I don't really care about the character, Big. Although, I actually didn't the find the idea of Rouge being a spy stupid. I find the character unique and I think she still has to the potential to carry out interesting roles.

I'd like to see a change in the current 3D gameplay since I'm getting bored of the Unleashed/Generations gameplay. I also want SEGA/ST to start to reintroduce the main cast again but properly this time because I would like to see more characters playable again. I don't want to see them shoehorned again like in Generations where they were unplayable and didn't do anything. I also don't want another game with a short plot involving only Sonic, Tails and Eggman. If it just sticks likes this then it gets boring, there's just no progress. I actually want to see characters like Knuckles again.

In what way?

Remember sonic used to be about Sonic stopping robotnik from turning animals in machines and also to stop him from gathering the chaos emeralds to power the death egg and build robotnikland

I do and they where better games for it

Hell the plot of sonic 3 and knuckles is perfect, stop robotnik rebuilding his death egg and using the master emerald that is all, no government, no unneeded characters

It was that simple, we didn't need Amy, Big, E-102(or whatever), Cream, Rouge, Blaze, Shadow, Silver and countless others that don't need to exist and are for the most part the worst and most pointless characters in existence (with Amy maybe being an exception)

It is literally like they had a bet in the office before each new game with the creative director, they would cover the walls with a bunch of pictures of character designs and mission types and then they would blind folded the creative director and give him two darts, wherever the darts landed that characters and gameplay no matter what would do in the new sonic, that is literally the only reasonable explanation i can come up with for the major amounts of shit that has ended up in sonic

Sorry for the rant but i really don't like rouge or most of the other bullshit as you can tell

Still keeping that sly anti-Sony stance I see but disguising it as some sort of choice related to another matter.

I love my U, but the reason it sells so well on the U (and was #1 on last weeks U chart!) is because there is a total lack of Wii U games as it is. The sonic game is regularly reduced to 10-15, so it simply sells a lot because of that.

It is quite cheap for the others, too. But yeah the lack of titles will help it's quest. Especially as it is one of the more 'premium' third party titles.

Again, assuming that absolutely no one has bought The Cave it means that one in 10 Wii U owners have Sonic Transformed.

Well, she's a sneaky character who is determined to get what she wants when working on both sides, she can be selfish but she isn't evil. I personally find this interesting, it's just my view on it though.

And I'm sure they can still make new 2D games like Sonic 3 instead of another episode of Sonic 4. I'll admit I haven't played Sonic 4 but by the looks of things, it just doesn't look like it will be brought up to a higher standard so Episode 3 might as well not exist, it just won't live up to S3&K. But whether people like it or not, 3D Sonic is here to stay, it wouldn't be right just to remove it in favour of 2D when you can easily have both seperately for both classic and modern fans.

I don't think all the characters are pointless, the problem was that some characters were either not written well or were given irrelevant gameplay in some of the past Sonic games. I still want them to be around. I think once the writing and gameplay gets better, they should start by adding Tails and Knuckles then reintrouduce Amy and so on. I don't want see characters like Tails just supporting Sonic in the background again (e.g Colors, Generations). If you have a main cast then why waste them? Make use of them! I am aware that most critics don't really care about this and just want a fun game but I don't really care for what they have to say.

I picked up transformed for 7.99 in hmv. That probably had a huge impact on sales.

There's also another Sonic exclusive Wii U game going forward, yet to be announced. This is a 3 game strategy.

1. Sonic and Mario at the Winter Olympics 2014.
2. Lost World
3. ?

It just has to be Sonic Adventure 3, if they are serious about having exclusives like Bayonetta from sega, then why not give sonic fans the game they have wanted for years

is it likely, no, but we can hope

It's ironic considering the old Nintendo VS SEGA console wars but in some ways Sonic/SEGA could end up being the Wii U's savior. Sonic games have always sold better on Nintendo consoles since SEGA went 3rd party and a new major Sonic title, a new Mario and Sonic Olympics and a possible Sonic and Mario Kart game could give it a big boost in sales from gamers who are skeptical about buying a Wii U.

It's weird seeing that line brought up soo many times "Always sold better on Nintendo", that's like saying Third Party games sell better on the Xbox 360, so they should go Xbox Exclusive! How does that work out? ONLY All Stars Racing Transformed sold THAT much more on the Wii U and that's only because it's the only Kart Racing game available on the platform because Mario Kart is a no show for now.

Previous games, yeah, did sell better, but we're talking a ratio of 1.1 against 0.7 and 0.6 million, pretty much cutting off HALF their user base by going Nintendo exclusive.
