Going ok! Yogi is unsure and tries to play by barking, which scared Archie a little, but he's now barking back, so need to stop it! It's very noisy. But it's working so far..

he is adorabubble. am putting the deposit down tomorrow, at which point he's reserved for me....but someone coming to look at him first thing, so I'm heading down early! He;s just met my mums old collie x and fitted in well. he's quite a calm little thing, i suspect I maybe lulled into a false sense of security!

Aww he'so cute!

Just caught up with the thread and wanted to say that yes, you can let them offlead. Sighthounds need to run and stretch those long legs. Just be aware that even with good training they may forget recall if they spot a rabbit or squirrel (be very careful round livestock, I always put my last lurcher and my whippet onlead). Their instinct is to chase and if that wee trigger switches in their brain they won't come back till they're ready. Salukis are known for being particularly stubborn on this but with a lurcher it depends on the mix.

Mine get offlead but nowhere near roads, with a hound that can hit 35mph in 6 seconds and an inbuilt prey drive I don't take the risk.

Aww, he's full of saluki lurchery loveliness! Join Lurcher Link, they'll love him!

thanks for that, will have a look at lurcher link, i did mean that I wasn't going to let him off lead when it wasn't enclosed, not that I wouldn't at all. Just thatits not worth the risk near open fences, especially as I live rural and there are some trigger happy farmers around (Fair enough they can lose livestock)

still don't know what he's crossed with, he's very small and short haired, but with the saluki slim lines and long snout.

Aye I know what you mean, I'm rural too. We have lots of open moors/fields/woods I can let Tux offlead on, I'm just always aware of that sighthound thing. If you post a pic on LL they'll try and identify the mix...they're brilliant at spotting little details and differences. You'll get a better idea as he gets bigger.

Aww, congrats! So chuffed you got him. I'm totally hooked on sighthounds after my lurcher, wouldn't have anything else now.

I dogsit a black and tan saluki cross and he's absolutely bonkers- in a lovely way- he lives with sheep, horses, cats ,chickens, pigs and ducks.

Aw my foster boy had the classic saluki markings in black and cream, gorgeous floppy ears too. He was fab but had a few battlescars which indicated he'd been a working lurcher, he was reacting strongly to the cats.

I managed to train my previous lurcher to live with cats but this one just had too strong a prey drive. He's now with a lovely family in a cat free home with a husky for company. It just depends on the individual dog, Some of the LL hounds live with cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hens and ducks. Others have to be muzzled when offlead because they'd kill anything small and furry. Your wee one is a pup though, no previous training to hunt so he'll be fine eith good socialisation and introductions to other animals.

He seems better with the cat than yogi is, yogi see the cat, gets all excited and bounces round like a numpty, ending up getting scratched by a pissed off cat. Archie (now renamed archer by my son, which I don't mind tbh) just sniffed gently and the cat was ok with that, so if I keep going like that I think he'll be ok.

He's back tomorrow, I'm going to pay the deposit too, my daughter was so upset when we dropped him off, even though I'd said all along that she was going to have to say bye at the end of the day! Only hing that consoled her was going to pets at home and getting him a toy!

I love Archer, Arrow was on my name list for Tux. Good names for a pointy dog.

I had Archie too, love people names for dogs.

Update, all going well, not sure he's in the greatest condition yet, they're feeding him up well but he's on natures menu which makes his gassey as anything! And he looks to have the start of localized demodetic (sp) mange, which I know is common in puppies but suspect its due to his poor start in life.

Mum has met him, still not impressed that I have a pup but has started feeding him when I'm not looking, so that's a sure sign of acceptance!

Some more pics up on the link above, u can see how small he is in comparison to my jr x

He's grown already, seems his legs have shot up! He's spent the day playing with yogi, they're driving me bonkers (in a good way!) wears them both out!

Mine too - LOL
Though there's hardly anything on there - only a few photos of him.
Started it as a bit of a joke, then when I looked again a few days later, he had friend requests
