The N95 8Gb wasn't one of my favourite phones but I did like the speakers on it, they were excellent.

Before my current phone (Nexus 4) my favourite phone was the Sony Ericsson W995 circa 2009.

Looks wise, my old motorola v3 Razr flip phone. Those things were beautifully designed.

Otherwise, a nokia 6600. The first "smartphone" I had, with opera browser on it having internet access wherever I went was a revelation.

That's one of the things that frustrates me about the Lumia 920. The speaker isn't good enough. Nor is the camera, or podcast support. It's 90% of the way to being as good as the N95 8GB was when I owned that (to me) but it's like Nokia just gave up. Probably because they lost control of the software.

I think Nokia's initial problem was getting developer backing and the importance of having an App Store. This was where Apple really did a great thing and why my iPhone 3G will always be one of my favourite phones.

By the time Nokia started to deal with this issue they had already lost, I think Nokia's future can only really be Android if they want to be a big player again.

Speaker not being good does not look like a software thing to me.

My favourite phone was my old Nokia 6300. It did everything I could possibly want from a phone (in the days before smartphones and t'internet), and it did it brilliantly. I loved it so much that it persuaded me to stay with Nokia through two dodgy handsets before I gave up and moved to a Galaxy S2.

It's also why I haven't totally lost faith in Nokia being able to come up with something brilliant, but I'd only consider it if it was Android.

I remember showing my friends at school and the jealous looks on their faces. At the time, it was rare for someone that age to even own a mobile phone.

In 2001, I took it to Gran Canaria and was amazed to receive a phone call from a friend on an isolated dusty road.

I spent most of my teen years playing Snake on that phone.

I still own it and thanks to X-press on covers, it looks as good as the day I bought it and it works perfectly - unlike the iPhone 3GS I bought in 2009, which is slow and scratched.”

Great story.

My current phone a Nexus 4. I had my first mobile in 1995 but I pretty much hated that and every other phone until I got a Nokia 5800 in 2009. Not that the 5800 was good but at least it did stuff. My eyes were opened in September 2010 when I got my first Android device, an Orange San Francisco, and 7 Android phones later the experience just gets better.

It is funny seing the love for those old Nokia phones, I truly hated them with a passion.

No, obviously, but the camera and the more general small software gripes are. I like Windows Phone, it just needs work.

Well the next time you are here, can you leave that iPad, plus there's a basket of ironing to do and my bowls need a good polish.

Give me a ring on your Mac first, so I know when to expect you.

Dee.
