Maybe even The Doctor didn't know
James Frederick
18-05-2013
It's possible that even The Doctor didn't know about the "forgotten" Doctor if whatever he did was so bad then maybe The Doctor erased his own memory of him and what he did to lock that Doctor away but going into his own time stream unlocked the memory and released him.

I know that could take away from the Doctors greatest secret but maybe he knew he had wiped a memory and knew if he did it to himself it was something that could never be found out not even to himself.

I also know that if he ended The Time War he has spoke about remembering it in the past but he could have also implanted a false memory of that.

It could also be maybe whatever he did came after that what if that Doctor couldn't stop fighting and found he liked killing so killed innocent people inc a companion to a point where his past versions/his good part forced a regeneration onto him inc a memory loss.

I think, since large chunks of time an space are 'locked away' then if there is a whole other missing regeneration ( IF that is the case) then that could have been the part of him that was locked away inside there. It essentially disappeared from time and space altogether.

Accessing this part of the Doctor could be a lead in to unlocking the timelock?

Well- it is a possibility I think anyway.

Also, surely there must be a reason DT didn't feature when all the others did?

He's not a past Doctor. He is a future Doctor.

I doubt that as he was spoken about in a past tense

I rewatched the scene and I agree he is. And the scene does point to it in a way, but knowing of the Valeyard I couldn't help but think of him as a future incarnation. Especially after the discussion of such a future Doctor in the story before hand.

The Doctor always seems to know a bit about his future selves anyway. Expanded fiction suggests this and the amount of times the Doctor has met himself might suggest he has learnt about the events.

Also, he has just merged with his own timeline. He knows about it all, so he may know something.

Spoiler

I think John Hurt confirmed he is a future Doctor in an interview. He said he was in a Doctor trinity with 11 and 10 with 11 as the present, 10 as the past, and himself as the future.

When the Doctor spoke to Clara at her house and she told him about the conference, he cried when she mentioned something about his greatest secret.
Of course, Trenzalore got him worried but the tears came from his memories.

Actually you are probably right. I think my point the spoiler is incorrect.

Spoiler
He said he was in a Trinity, but he makes no references to being a future Doctor.

Bother. Watching the scene for the third time (trying to see if 10 was one of the Doctors) I could see again that he says that only his past was there. My theory has been destroyed.

Hidden in plain sight is the John Hurt Doctor and how did he get there?

Tennant did feature he was looking out on an alien skyline balcony and Clara was watching him from the Window. It looked like either the Library landscape or a new shot with shorter hair.

So he was! Didn't notice that initially. Also, when Clara was standing there in that scene, was she wearing the same clothes as Oswin from the Dalek Asylum?

He also ran past briefly near the end along with someone dressed as Eccleston.

No because 11 talks about Being Hurt in the past tense, not the future tense.

True

But I can see them saying that dark part of him still exists and may later be reborn as The Yaleyard

The way the Doctor talks he would make sure he got hos wording right if it was a future Doctor he would say "He will be me" not " He was me"
