Quote:
“DORIUM: "On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered."”
“DORIUM: "On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered."”
We've been speculating this for ages, ever since The Wedding of River Song - and the way I can see it Moffat lied within the prophecy itself. Some of it is fine, but some of it seems to have been ignored or forgotten entirely:
Quote:
“On the fields of Trenzalore”
“On the fields of Trenzalore”
This is true - it was the setting of the story.
Quote:
“at the fall of the Eleventh”
“at the fall of the Eleventh”
The Doctor fell to Trenzelore since the TARDIS refused to land.
Quote:
“when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer”
“when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer”
I'll get back to this in a moment,
Quote:
“a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered”
“a question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered”
This part is fine as well, as it refers to the events of the story towards the end of the episode.
Now let's get back to that earlier part of the quote:
Quote:
“when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer”
“when no living creature may speak falsely or fail to give answer”
At that point, it states that no living creature could speak falsely or fail to answer. We can ignore Vastra, Strax and Jenny here since they couldn't have answered anyway.
Both the Doctor and Clara knew the answer to the Question, and (if this prophecy were accurate) both would have chimed in with the correct answer no sooner had they been asked.
While the Question was answered, it was done so by a person who can't exactly be called 'living'. Meanwhile both the Doctor and Clara succeeded in either speaking falsely or failing to answer.
Does anyone find this whole thing just a bit of a cheat?
