Moffat speaks on the leak....

Post on the BBC site from Moffat:

Quote:
“A little earlier, Doctor Who’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, gave this thank you message…

Well that was all a bit Keystone Cops, wasn't it? Our biggest surprise, our most secret episode, a revelation about the Doctor that changes everything...

... and we'd have got away with it too, if we hadn't accidentally sent Blu Ray copies of Name Of The Doctor to 210 Doctor Who fans in America.

Erm - security-wise, that's not GOOD, is it? I mean, it's not top notch, it's hard to defend as professional level, hard-line secrecy.

My favourite fact is that they're BLU RAYS. Listen, we don't just leak any old rubbish, we leak in high def. 1080p or nothing, that's us. Every last pixel in beautifully rendered detail. It's like getting caught extra naked.

But here's the thing. Never mind us blundering fools, check out the fans. 210 of them, with the top secret episode in their grasp - and because we asked nicely, they didn't breathe a word. Not one. Even Doctor Who websites have been closing their comments sections, just in case anyone blurts. I'm gobsmacked. I'm impressed. Actually, I'm humbled. And we are all very grateful.

Now you might be thinking, what does all this matter? It's a plot development in the mad old fantasy world of Doctor Who, why is that important? Well of course, it's not important, and in the scheme of things, it doesn't matter at all. Just as it doesn't matter when you're telling a joke, and some idiot shouts out the punchline before you finish. It's irritating, that's all. It's bad manners.

Well no bad manners here! 210 Doctor Who fans kept the secret, and many, many more fans helped. I wish I could send you all flowers, but I don't know where you live (and given our record, you really shouldn't be sharing private information with us.) So instead, if we can get our act together - and I forgive you for thinking that's a BIG if - there will be a little video treat released later tonight.

10 plus 11 gives you…

That video is available to watch now”

The video is the interview clip BTW.

210 peeps got it, more than we thought!

All the spoilers got out anyway.we knew Clara saved the doctor.we knew past doctors would make appearances and either David Tennant or john hurt would turn up at the end. Nothing at all surprised me.

Not everyone. And anyway, we didn't know the whys or hows to those things we "knew", but those 210 people could have revealed EVERYTHING, and they didn't.

I'd like to say thanks, because if the information was there, I know I'd have looked and ruined tonight.

Well kind your fault mate, I didn't know this because I avoided spoilers.

It's like shooting yourself in the foot, and complaining it hurts.

Well it all surprised me because I avoided the spoilers, which was quite easy to do, thank goodness

Alot of that stuff was stuff that was known prior to the leak though. The last 3 minutes stuff wasn't widely leaked, but did appear on GB (which isn't a very open access forum), but not wide enough that it was all over the place. People forget that these forums are only a small fraction of the audience...... Also it wasn't leaked onto torrents. The fact Moffat didn't realised some did leak it just shows that the information didn't get very exposed.......

It never made it onto torrent sites, and I think it's great that those fans cared about not spoiling it for people.

I think he's just upset cos he misunderstood and thought that the tennant & smith video was going to be a scene from the 50th ep....

Did you enjoy the episode though? I had no idea on any of the spoilers and thought it was amazing. Would it had been so good if I'd known what was going to happen od advance? I doubt it.

I was one who did read that particular thread which much of it read as most of the events actually turned out.
I don't think it was confirmed as absolute fact, but I think many of us in the thread felt as though it sounded plausible and possibly likely.

So I too shot myself in the foot. But it was still a pleasure to watch and the reveal still provided a big punch nonetheless.

I do envy people like you in hindsight though who went into the episode completely blind.

I do like speculation, but when in those threads sometimes temptation gets the better of me and I think sod it and click on a spoiler tagged post.
I think in the future I'm going to try to exercise more restraint when it comes to posts in spoiler tags though.

Me neither but you do know that the vast majority of people watching this show have never spent a single second looking for spoilers or any other information about it on the Internet or other media. They just watch on a Saturday night and forget about it for the rest of the week. Weirdos!

I quite enjoyed last nights episode the only episode of the series that for me is worth rewatching because he rest of the season was roobarb imo.I had no idea of the plot before watching so it was not spoiled for me as I am not one for digging for spoilers, however I do read most of the threads on digital spy and all the above points I made were revealed on this forum.I even remember the rumour of a Patrick troughton double being seen on set a few months ago which turned out to be true.
