Matt Smith the final Doctor

I loved the finale but one thing I didn't quite get is why Clara only saw 11 incarnations of the doctor in his entire life.

Surely this means that the doctor will not regenerate again, and matt smith is the last one, or clara would have seen his future selves too?

It would be pretty hard to include future doctors don't you think?

Although i do see where your coming from.

Maybe she has, but because it's in her future and hasn't happened yet, she must have forgot. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

For all we know she did see them, we were just only shown ones we'd recognise.

Maybe until she went into the time stream and changed it there wasn't going to be any more Doctors as 11 was dying and would have died had she not gone into it.

Once she was in and saved him there can now be more Doctors but she didn't see them as her mission was over and had no need to see any more

I got confused at this as well, Clara specifically said she seen all eleven of his faces as if that's all that was there. Also the tomb was Matt Smith's TARDIS interior as well. I can kind of justify it to myself by saying that as the future is still in flux and changes depending on today's actions the GI didn't need to attack it, as long as he took out everything from before that day the future wouldn't exist anyway. So Clara only went for the stuff under attack. Under this theory though all he had to do was go after William Hartnell's timestream.

The other theory I had on this was at the time she entered his timestream there was no future Doctors, Matt's Doctor was just about to enter it himself, he should be dead with no regeneration so there wouldn't be future Doctor's. This also ties in with the paradox of him being there he brought up. Would there be a timestream of his life in the first place if he died inside it and he was scattered as echoes through time? For him to have a timestream he needs to die, but for him to die he needs to access his timestream. My brain hurts.

Clara doesn't meet any future versions of The Doctor because in the time stream she enters they don't exist.

When the Great Intelligence enters the time stream he effectively ends it and with it the life of The Doctor. In the Great Intelligence effected time stream The Doctor dies on Tranzalora as 11 (he can't die sooner because the Great Intelligence needs 11 to enter the tomb and thus the time stream). As a result of this there are no future incarnations of The Doctor for Clara to meet when she enters the time stream because she enters the Great Intelligence effected time stream in which they don't exist. Its only after she's 'fixed' the time stream that future versions of The Doctor are once again free to exist.

She clearly says she saw all eleven of The Doctor's faces.

That'd be my assumption.

Once she enters the time stream, one would assume she goes wherever the GI goes, past and future, but then she comes out the other end she's back in her own time-line so she can't know anything that happens in the future.

Course, there may turn out to be a more convoluted reason but there doesn't really need to be.

Except she and the GI would have no need to go to the future, the GI was changing the past and killing 11 in the present. The timestream she entered ended with The Doctor dying in his 11th incarnation, ergo there was no future.

That is a much more elegant way of saying what I was trying to write before.

no, she just mentions that she saw 13 doctors, they would not have to be shown on screen
