I kinda want Doctor Who to go back to basics. No continuous story arcs or anything - just 13 light episodes with just The Doctor and the Companion going to planets and finding out miraculous ways to save civilizations like in the Classic series and the first few series of the reboot.

I miss that

I don't mind the show being dark, but it needs to interject it with some lighter stories now and again.

Series 7 was an oddball...it was more consistently dark than previous series, but it never felt like it was as dark as other series had dared to go in particular instances. I think I would enjoy a few more episodes with novel concepts that are a bit lighter in tone, but don't feel like filler. I feel the 'drama' has been upped in Series 7, but the 'adventure' aspect has been a tad neglected.

I just hope we get quality episodes like AOTD and TNOTD instead of enjoyable but bland filler episodes.

I don't even feel like series 7 was dark at all to be honest, I agree it needs to go back to how it was though. Even though series 7 hasn't been dark, it has been terrible.

Tra-la-la-la-la. We walk happily in hand with the Doctor in his adventures and 'nary a shadow crosses our path. Tra-la-la-la-la.

Can't you just see the pretty bunny rabbits frolicking in the wood? By God! Is that Snow White I see singing to a sparrow perched ever so delicately on her finger? Tra-la-la-la-boring!

I'm watching a series about the last of the Time Lords. What are you watching?

I'm watching the one you're watching and in the last three episodes it's finally getting dark enough! I'm just waiting for the Doctor to try to kill himself when he realises what the other incarnation did, or for Clara to finally get back to her own time and find that the kids haven't gone out, they're dead.

Nah we NEED thsi darkness....its what i adore about the current era of Doctor Who...that marriage of dark tones and glorified series arcs....if anything i hope they push into scarier/darker territory for series 8

^^^ This, I think Moffat has got the balance just right.

When Davies tried to do "dark" it got cheesey.

This series has had just the right amount of humour and dark stories, a mystery in the arc that didn't dominate the series to the extent that River did in S6 and a wonderful enemble cast that pop up just regularly enough without it being repetitive.

It has been a wonderful series and I don't know what people are complaining about.

It doesn't matter how much some fans refuse to accept it, he show will always move forwards and Russell T Davies is NOT going to be the next showrunner.

Well done Moff, this is what I've been waiting for since 2005.

Please please please let it be Whithouse next

This! Every ep should have the Doctor being as dark as he was in A Town Called Mercy!

To be honest Moffats era has to be the era of the least deaths (has anyone died?) so in reality its probs the sunniest era in its history

As with all Doctor Who series, there should be a mix of episodes: dark ones, light-hearted ones, serious ones, clever and intelligent ones, fun and adventurous ones, humorous ones, emotional ones, stand-alone ones and arc-heavy ones.
The beauty of Doctor Who is it's variability. One episode can be so astonishingly different from the one before. That's why I love Doctor Who- it's a collection of varied stories from the life of an ancient Time Lord with eleven personas, his companions and his blue box.
Long may it continue.

Just please give us a full series in one year for series 8, even if it's delayed until the autumn? Please Mr Moffat and Mr BBC?

Yeah, he was really good in that. Could have included a few more flashbacks of burning Time Lords though.

There's flashes of darkness, but let's be honest, villains aside, no [notable] good guys [that aren't Characters of the Day] die - and stay dead...

Not really 'dead' as in 'killed on-screen', and they died a natural death - an exception to the rule.

Now, if Rose had died by being flung into that Void portal at Torchwoods' Canary Wharf HQ, then that would've counted.

Personally, I hope it goes even darker. Doctor Who is *supposed to be* scary.

Me tooooooo! I think it's going to though, whatever the Doctor did that was worse than the Time War must have been quite intense.

I was just talking about the OP moaning that he wants the format to change.
