Kindle Paperwhite 3G battery charge
I have just got one of these (on Friday) and the battery seems not to be holding a charge. I have charged it fully twice, until the light turned green and the onscreen indicator showed full. On each occasion in a few hours the battery indicator has reduced to, what looks like, about 20% charged.
On the latest time it finished charging at about 1100 today and, with the device not being used (it was just in, what I would call, the standby mode with the screensaver displayed dimly) it reached about 20% again by about 1730. I have the WiFi set up, and on switching on it shows. Would this reduce the battery that rapidly perhaps? Otherwise, does it sound as if I have a duff device? |

Turn wireless off to compare, but the battery goes too quickly anyway, i'd say. Ask for a replacement.

Thanks for that. I have turned the WiFi off and also deregistered it for now.
It is on charge at the moment, so I will take it off when it finishes and see what it looks like in the morning. Got it from Argos, so I may well take it back tomorrow. |

It finished charging at about 2200 and by 2330 the charge indicator had already dropped a bit and it had only been switched on for a total of about 30 seconds!
Visit to Argos coming up! |

Successfully exchanged with no argument. Now to see what this one does, it is on charge now.

Yes, the new one has held its charge overnight. So looks like the end of the tale.

It should last about a month with wireless off and reading about 30 minutes a day. Mine is now almost 3 years old and I have to charge it weekly, now. BTW it looks like it's a hit or miss with new devices, some people went through several Kindles before everything was as it should be.

Thanks for that info Ivan. I would hope that, in idle mode, the WiFi will not be operating. I don't yet know how much I will be using it, but I got it because I have to do something which might involve hanging about quite a bit.
I am currently looking round for suitable material to download. I quite like biographies, but many of those which would be of interest I have already read. I will have to see, it is a few weeks away. Anyway, so far, this one seems to be doing as it should. |

Thats good to hear it was a faulty device, as I will be looking to upgrade my kindle keyboard to a paperwhite version later on this year.

According to Amazon as long as you keep the Wifi and Light switched off the charge should last getting on for 8 weeks in the Paperwhite.
Up until the screen died my keyboard 3G it always kept its charge for 4 weeks - so I have high hopes for its Paperwhite replacement. |

I have not charged it at all since last night and have had the WiFi enabled and the charge indicator does not seem to have moved except for when I have actually been using it. |

You only need wi-fi when you are downloading a book. So you can turn it off (or turn Airplane mode on, I think they call it so now), so it won't need any power when you are reading.
