A strange unnamed sauce made by the family of this African guy I used to know. He used it incredibly liberally, I had a small dot on my fingertip and it burnt my mouth. I'm normally OK with hot stuff but this was just ridiculous! He must've had an asbestos mouth!

I bought a jar of this curry cook-in sauce.
It's lovely and it's not as hot as you'd think. Yes, it's certainly got a very good kick to it, but it's no hotter than their '3 chilli' rated Vindaloo cook-in sauce. We had some the other evening and put a couple of extra chillies in there. Soften a chopped onion, some garlic and a couple of chillis. Add in 2 cubed chicken breasts, a diced red pepper and a few chopped mushrooms. Let it simmer for 30-40 minutes, then serve. It's fabulous. |

Once had a chicken Phaal which had a few drops of pure capsaicin oil in it. Make no mistake: it very nearly killed me. When I'd had about 2 mouthfuls, I hiccupped and some of it went down the wrong hole. I couldn't get a breath for about 20 seconds or so which felt like an eternity. I panicked so badly I very nearly cacked my own pants. Taught me a lesson and a half. Never again. These days, I stick to a good Vindaloo. Hot but edible. Trouble is, nowadays most places' idea of a Vindaloo isn't nearly as hot as it should be really. Usually end up with something that more resembles a Madras. Quote:

There is a readily available red sauce that comes in small bottles that I tried as a student in the 70s when we were experimenting with all sorts of things
That was devilishly hot............. ![]() I've found it............Tabasco http://www.tabasco.com/tabasco-produ...nal-red-sauce/ I haven't tried it for probably 30 years but maybe now that I've got more used to spicy food it might be OK.............

The hottest food/meal was a Bhut Jolokia curry |

Vindaloo for me at an Indian joint, just that bit too hot. The supermarket jars of curry sauces are much, much weaker than what you get at at a proper restaurant.

Moluccan egg roll with Sambal Setan. "Be careful", the little Moluccan lady said. "The sauce is a bit hot." She was not joking. It took hours for me to taste anything again.

I've had a curry made with a Bhut Jolokia. Not the best. I've eaten a piece of one on its own too, which was pretty unpleasent.

I've had a chilli made with 'Dave's Insanity Private Reserve' (750,000 Scoville units of heat)
To give you an idea of scale, hot Tabasco Sauce is about 8000 Scoville units. Scotch Bonnet Peppers are about 300,000. It was like being maced. |

My mum works with people from all over the world and a few years ago someone she knew made us a dish that nearly blew my head off. I think it was Yemeni but mum isn't in contact with the person any more and I've never found the recipe, which is a shame because it was bloody delicious.
This is the hottest commercial sauce I've eaten, and I have a pretty high tolerance for the spicy stuff. |

If you watch the American show 'Man V Food', they often refer to the Ghost Chilli as being the hottest in the world.
I've never heard of the Ghost Chilli. Is it known by any other name here? |
