It's incompatible because Barclay's have not made it work on that device yet/ever

The very reason the product was put back in the box and out of the house.i expected so much from this tablet.I had the product for 30 hour's did not like it, could not save app's to sd card also could not save film's from filxster to sd card. so returned it was.

I don't think you're able to save apps to SD card for the majority of Tablets. Have you checked which tablets you'd be able to do that on and which ones would allow you to save films from flixter? You may find you can't do that on any.

You just described the second biggest problem with Android tablets and the tablet apps available for them. The biggest is the few actual tablet apps available to begin with. It's one of the the main reasons I only recommend iPads.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I clearly didnt do enough research

I went on google play before buying the tab, saw the apps that I wanted and thought they would work - am quite disappointed.

Seasidedaz, did they refund you for the tab without any trouble? I bought mine from John Lewis and they are usually quite good at refunds.

Am thinking I should have got the Ipad after all - how annoying!!!

I think this is more to do with fragmentation than a lack of tablet apps. This app is probably not compatible with some phones that run android and it will probably run on some android tablets.

The problem facing Android tablets is both fragmentation *and* the lack of tablet apps.

There is not a lack of apps that work on an Android Tablet though.

I've a Nexus 7 and never had a problem getting what I want.

The number of actual Android *tablet* apps available for Android tablets is just a fraction of the over 300,000 tablet apps available for the iPad, and then you have to cross your fingers it will actually work on your particular Android tablet. You being satisfied with what is available doesn't change that fact.

What do class as a 'tablet' app?

So you keep parroting, yet you can't come up with a figure for how many (or few) Android apps work great on tablets can you?

I echo alan1302's comment, there's no shortage of apps for Android tablets, and unlike trying to run an iphone app on an ipad, they use the space available very well.

AFAIK the Barclays app requires a phone number, which it uses as part of its security/verification system. So it won't run on tablets with a wifi only connection.

An app specifically designed for a tablets screen size and resolution, not a blown up phone app.

A lot of the time it will be the same thing though - i think people get very hung up on this.

Not all apps need a re-design just because they have gone to a larger screen size.

exactly. And, unlike the iOS metholodgy PPhilster is so fixated on, Android apps allow for a variety of sizes and resolutions.

Its not like there's one way of laying out an app for a 5.5" phone and a completely different way of laying it out for a 7" tablet.

Considering Google itself refuses to give out numbers, has acknowledged the problem, it's well known within the industry, and it is the biggest complaint amongst Android tablet owners you are obviously wrong.

What on earth are you talking about? Running phone apps on Android tablets has always been the running joke with Android tablets, not the iPad. The iPad, unlike Android tablets, has access to over 300,000 *actual tablet apps* designed specifically for the iPad. You don't know what you are talking about.

Then the developer of that app is a lousy developer.

Christ almighty, when are you going to understand that there are iPhone apps and there are iPad apps?!

Android allows for one app to package design considerations into one file but that is rarely taken advantage of considering how many different Android devices there are, including tablets. The reality is the developer still have to essentially write and design for those many other tablets to include in that one file and they are simply not interested in doing so for so many different tablet screen sizes and resolutions, assuming they are even interested in designing and writing for Android tablets in the first place.

That's exactly what happens with iOS apps on the iPhone and the iPad.

You really need to learn about what you are trying to talk about.

That's a silly statement. The much bigger availability of apps simply means you have more to choose from and that also makes it more likely other developers will develop apps for such an ecosystem.

strange, its only ipad owners that seem to be complaining about it; I guess some are upset that their expensive toy has been overtaken by its competitors. Us android tablet owners don't see it as a problem. If you don't know how many apps work great on Android tablets how can you compare it to the ipad number?

If android tablets did this, I might see you had a point. But they don't, and you don't.

But it seems to work on the Galaxy Note

I did a web chat with someone at Barclays and they said it should work but he's wrong - have now read the reviews on google play from people with Galaxy tabs and it most definitely doesn’t work.

You've made it clear that you're an Apple hater with your ignorant and silly "expensive toy" comments so your knowledge, credibility and reasoning skills on the subject is essentially worthless, as you have repeatedly shown.

Everything I have said is industry knowledge and common knowledge amongst Android tablet users. One only has to know plenty of Android tablet users or read the relevant Android forums.

LOL, that's an over three year old article from when the iPad first came out!!!

Now try and talk your way out of that.
