As much as I don't like Alex, I have a feeling that clip of him saying what's that while holding a bunch of carrots was taken out of context! I reckon he was looking at someone or something else and referring to that instead while he just happen to have the carrots in hand.

It must be surely. Even the most veg-phobic/deprived childhood will have seen carrots of some sort.

Yes but he might have been asking what type of carrots are they?

My veg box farm sells it under the cauliflower section though, and they call it Romanesco cauliflower.. That's where I got confused.

Just looked at the link and it can be called a cauliflower too Hence the confusion

Jason is like the strange cousin in the family you don't want anyone to meet or know you are related to him.

It's from the same family. Indeed, in the US they call it a Broccoflower or Broccolini.

He may have been referring to the type of carrot as many things on sale were being given their full name not just 'potatoes' or 'apples'

Exactly or the price, ot something else relating to them. I find it hard to believe he didn't know they were carrots.

Maybe he was worried they were orange stakes?

Wonder if the buffalo steaks/stakes were a worry?

As someone whose five a day tends to involve large portions of tomato ketchup and chips, it doesn't sound at all odd to me.
