DOI axed, how much longer is x factor safe?
Now that dancing on ice is being axed after it's next series, how much longer will x factor survive? Ratings for the last DOI final were 6.7 million.

Ratings for The X Factor's most recent final were more than double that.
It's safe for at least another three series. |

I assumed there were other considerations for DOI, not just ratings. Torville and Dean wanting to quit for one.
I think the spot will be filled by ITV's new dancing show, Dancing On Floorboards. |

DOI still has another year to go. And chances are ITV won't want to have 2 giant holes in their schedule in 2015. They'll be doing everything they can to preserve The X Factor as long as possible. IIRC X Factor was the only TV show to achieve more than 3 million 16-34 year olds watching a single episode last year. And that's the most valuable demographic for advertisers. There's life in it yet, they just need to get a grip on the declines.
BGT fell sharply in 2010 (post SuBo) but since than has managed to keep any declines to a minimum. Eastenders is down about 8% again this year and everyone expects the soaps to last forever. So if XF can get its losses down to that level then mid to long term, it will be fine. If they keep falling 20% then it's going to become an issue. If they fall 40% like American Idol, then it'd be the end. |

I think they have another few years left, but not beyond that. Your right that itv won't want two holes in the schedule in 2015 so if ratings declines are minimal, I think it will limp on..

I think people are slowly getting bored of these reality shows, everything comes to an end and singing competitions like x factor have been going over a decade now.
Why must DOI and XF going leave a 'massive hole' in itv schedules? Move onto something else. - tim |

For the sake of 6-7m viewers, the money they throw into that programme just isn't worth it when the likes of Splash and Catchphrase can get 5m. |

ITV has tried to launch various other reality shows but have failed miserably. They'll probably sign a new three-year contract in October of this year to keep the show until they find that hit show.

As long as ITV can charge 250k for 30 seconds ad time it's safe. And it's still viable earning a fair bit less than that.

Can't see them axing TXF. For whichever brand new show that would replace it to rate as well as XF did consistently last year would be outstanding.

I agree. They would only leave a hole if the powers that be at ITV are THAT incompetent at coming up with something decent to fill the void. Which I do think they are, much to my frustration. They've relied too heavily on XF/BGT/DOI/IAC for far too long and I would love nothing more than for them to be forced to put their thinking caps on and cater more to those of us who aren't completely obsessed with this genre of programming.
As for XF, it's been rubbish for a couple of yeas now, imho. I would hope maybe by the time 2015 rolls around even the ITV bosses will want to try something new. And those hits don't come along very often which is why ITV are so reluctant to drop any of their big hits. |

They probably have something lined up to replace DOI. A new celebrity dancing show has been suggested, so it will probably be that. I just hope they don't ask Schofield to host it.
