Viewing figures to rise or fall this year
I think they will fall even further with the dreadful return of you know who. I can't see anymore than about 6-7 million to be honest including the live shows

I think both the UK and US franchise would still be in the 8-10 million mark. They`re in the area of a stabilized viewership unless there's an eff up that would piss people off (The preemption of the Judges Houses - from 8M viewers to 6M). What they also need is heavy promotion for the show.

Gary Borelow is back sucking the fun out of the show and pushing his awful acts so I will say fall.

I doubt it will fall again, it seemed to hit a base last year. It could also end up seeing a modest increase like BGT did when they had a third panel in as many years last year. Last years launch was relatively low key and was looking backwards rather than forwards with the ad campaign, so this time they just need to put the focus onto the new acts.

If there's talented contestants who people care about, then numbers shouldn't drop much more imo.
Also, I think it's a great idea that they seem to freshening up the auditions because those shows are always my least favourite part of the process. |

People don't want talent though or all boring ballads they always sing, people want to be entertained.

I always refer to series 7. I know people put it down to the judges, but I think that year was so successful because there was a real range of contestants, and there seemed to be a lot of interest in them. I know it became apparent afterwards that Matt was regularly winning the public vote, but it seemed at the time (to me at least) that any of that top 4 could have won that year; Matt, Rebecca, Cher and 1D. Each act seemed to get a lot of interest. |

Figures will rise.
Forums are in the minority with people not liking Sharon. Sharon is popular amongst most mainstream fans and the fact that they're brining back the conference room auditions is fantastic. Think it will be strong series for X Factor. As for the US X Factor, I think figures will also ultimately rise. |

I'm not a fan of Sharon Osbourne, but even I can see that people who were turned off from the last couple of series will be interested again, if they think that this is more like the show they once watched. If X Factor can capture the middle ground again - more traditional singers and not rappers or 'credible' folksy singers - then the ratings will rise again.
But no more 'twists' and shock eliminations. Keep it simple. This is what Strictly has managed to do and this is why they've kept their audience, if not built on that audience. |

Well everyone on the forum seems to be mixed about the return of Mrs O but from Twitter and Facebook it seems to be getting mainly positive responses with many people asking for her to throw more water over Louis.

Exactly. Most people, like myself are happy that Sharon is returning. It's the minority that are coming out with the same old stuff - 'she's old', 'she's a bully', 'plastic surgery'. Blah blah blah. |

Being the 10th anniversary, I think they'll be hoping for the ratings to be up on last year at least - that's the bare minimum.

Fall, but the aim is to keep that fall to a lower rate than the past two years. Last series was down 15-20% most weeks, so it's highly unlikely that this series is suddenly going to bounce to significant growth.

I think it'll either rise ever so slightly or stay the same. (i.e. a similar amount of new people tuning in as people turning over).

I think it will rise. Not to 2010 level, but it will be better than the last 2 years.

Until we know who are the "celebrities" competing in SCD, then it is difficult to answer.
However, I think SCD will have its work cut out to have a stronger lineup than last year, hence I think XF will be watched by more people this year, but the rise wont be much more than a million at most, and that will be by default because XF will struggle to have a poorer set of Finalists than they had last year. |

Unless there is a vast increase in the quality of the acts on the show viewing figures will fall. They have to stop putting through the joke acts rather than the people who can actually sing as well.

I don't think it will rise, I think it will stay stable.
Sharon was a part of the X Factor for four years when it was averaging between 6 - 8 million. In the four seasons after, it was averaging 10 - 14 million. I don't see the reason for bringing her back at all. |

Give us another Leona or Alex and the viewers will go up! It's because the acts are so mediocre.
