Is there any workaround to use headphones with this Bush TV?
My lovely mother, being a fan of "lets-buy-the-cheapest-possible-thing-on-the-Argos-card", brand of shopping has lumbered herself with a BUSH BLCD32HB.
The problem is that I visit her frequently and due to partial deafness I often need to use headphones. However this set has no headphone socket whatsoever, which seems very strange to me. I tried to see if I could connect it to my hi-fi amp and use the headphones that way, but there is no analogue audio out to connect the amp to that I can see. The TV is connected to a Virgin VHD box, but it seems there are no analogue audio out/phono connections there either. The connections on the TV are; 3 x HDMI in 1 x Scart in PC/VGA Audio in PC/VGA in Digital Audio out (appears to be a phono type socket) USB Common interface VIdeo in (phono type socket) R&L Audio in (phono type sockets) Y, Pb/Cb, Pb/Cr AND NO HEADPHONE SOCKET!!! ![]() VHD Box connections SCART HDMI RGB CVBS Optical audio output Ethernet port USB port I have an old hi-fi amp, which obviously has phono sockets and I have a VCR somewhere. I mention this because I remember using a VCR, with a pre-amp (disco mixer) to provide headphone utility to an old CRT TV, although I can't remember how and I'm not sure it would be applicable here. In any case I'd prefer a more elegant solution than connecting up an extra two large units. I can't afford to buy a fancy AV amp or anything like that. Thanks for any help... ...and don't buy Bush if you're hard-of-hearing! |

A scart to phono adapter would enable you to connect the audio to a hi fi amp.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Switched-Ada...lug+to+3+phono

A SCART adapter plug as linked to above would certainly work on the Virgin box SCART. Whether it would also work on the TV and what audio you get out of the TV could be more problematic.
A way to check if the TV SCART is wired for output is to see if it has an icon by the side which is a square with an arrow or arrows across one edge. If it has an arrow pointing out then it is wired for output. If it only has one pointing into the square it is not wired for output so no good. Also many TVs only output the audio from the built in Freeview tuner. It might not output anything when watching Virgin. And it's not just the cheapo makes like Bush that lack analogue audio outs. Mid level makes like LG and Samsung also seem to do Digital only. Looks like you have to go up to the likes of Sony to get a headphone socket. |
