Can someone please sort this out once and for all?

I read it in a QI book, there must be some source to the idea that Jaffa cakes are largely apricot based, but the ingredients states orange juice.

Well, Jaffa is a variety of orange, named after Jaffa in Israel.

I would have said orange, but on Googling seems people say it's actually apricot jelly and tangerine oil?

But but but, what about trading standards? The ingredients say orange juice and natural orange flavouring. No mention of apricots.

And yes there's a lot of apricot rumour, but no hard and fast confirmation.

My daughter buys cherry flavoured ones when she visits Monaco. ( I was talking about these the other day on another thread - sorry for repeating myself btw). I haven't seen them here tho'.

I'd say they are orange flavoured but I also like the cherry ones. Used to get the cherry ones in Lidls but they haven't had them for some time, which is a shame 'cos they're lovely.

They do the cherry ones in most Polish shops along with blackcurrant and sometimes lemon and lime. I prefer the cherry ones too.

I guess the mystery will never be solved.

So much mystery for such a little cake/biscuit.

There is answers to both in that thread, 70% pulp and pectin of apricot, or none at all. Both supposedly from the factory.

The only true way is to send an email to United Biscuits. Plain 'n' simple. Surely they wouldn't lie?

Anyone up for it?

EDIT: Email sent!

Right then. From the horses mouth:

"Thank you for contacting us regarding the ingredients of Jaffa Cakes.

We can confirm that the jelly is in fact orange and not apricot.

hope this helps

Yes!

I will eat pretty much anything.... except the one thing everyone seems to adore.

The "I love a whole tube of jaffa cakes" is pretty much a universally accepted truth, but I really can't stand them.

I don't like the dark chocolate. I don't like the dry, chewy sponge cake, and I don't like the bizarre 'orange flavoured' filling.

... I'm not a food snob at all, and I'd gladly wolf down a good few chocolate chip cookies or bourbons or custard creams etc. I just really dislike jaffa cakes!
