Cat chattering his teeth
John_Patrick
23-05-2013
One of cats when he sees a reflection of light on the wall, say from a watch or phone etc stares at it and starts chattering his teeth and squeaking at it.

He will walk over too it if its on the wall and try and stalk it.

What do they think it is?

Do your cats do the same?

It's quite funny, especially when you have the reflective object in your hand and can adjust it to get the cat jumping at it!

Mines do that if they see a fly or something on the window, they sound like little monkeys!

Years ago, we had a cat and when he saw a bird in our yard through the window, he would chatter his teeth at them !

Yes they do it at birds. I have a dog who does it when hormones are all up in the air!

It's their way of saying "get in my mouth" to the birds/flies

Yes I think this is quite common, although my 2 cats who are both female don't do this but the last 2 cats I had who were both male did chitter if they saw a bird while looking out of a window.

Cute isnt the word.... well, it is, and funny too. He does it to reflections on the wall and his sister does it to birds on the trees outside.

Maybe a primitive reaction from a time when cats caught fish.the flicker of light is similar to a fish in water.

Mine does it a lot to birds. She does it to those that are far out of range which backs up a theory I've read that its a sign of frustration.
