Frozen food expiration dates

Interesting one this. I always wondered exactly why frozen food has an expiration date. I mean, it's frozen solid and inanimate so just why do we need to eat it within a certain time?

Well, with a bit of Googling, I found this interesting article which explains why.

In fact, looking around, it's a damn handy website! Full of great info.

I assume you mean expiry dates? No idea, why, but people have eaten mammoths that have been frozen for 10,000 years and the people have lived to tell the tale (the mammoth did not recover)

Interesting point as it goes. What is the difference between expiry and expiration? Think I prefer expiry tbh.

Anyway, it appears that essentially, it's a taste/texture/quality issue rather than one of safety. But it always bugged me.

The only problem i've had with frozen food is freezer burn.

If it is protected from that then it has always been fine IIRC. I'm still here.
