Counting crows-August and everything after is epic.
Beautiful from start to finish.
How could they ever top that.

They never did.

Though maybe not perfect albums, but I have always found that albums by The Beautiful South are very easy to listen to, a band to me that stays very consistent.

[quote=Soupietwist;66041092]I don't believe there is such a thing as a perfect album.

There is such a thing as the perfect album and they are most of The Beatles Albums especially Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, Revolver, Please Please Me and Sgt. Pepper. also All Things Must Pass of George Harrison and Band On The Run from Paul McCartney and Wings.

Definitely agree. When I first bought the album, I knew her big singles, but was waiting for the 'rubbish, filler' sort of tracks. They never happened - almost every track on that album is cracking music. And it also transcends age / gender / taste too, I think it's an album anyone can listen to and enjoy, nobody would poke fun and say 'ha, you listen to *that*?!' etc

Madonna - Like a Prayer...the album is just LIFE....i love the Baroque feel and juxtapositions across the album....adore every song, should have been more single releases/visuals from it...a real beautiful coming of age album that means so much to me and will always be with me..M/Leonard/Bray are the holy trinity.

Madonna - Ray of Light....the cohesiveness and direction spiritually across the album is second to none...the fusion of genres Trip Hop/Electronica/Ambience/Psychadelic Rock/Eastern/Industrial/Trance/Techno is really a force of nature in itself...which showcases an apocalyptic self creating atmosphere...very powerful and kinetic.

Kate Bush - Hounds of Love....feels like two albums in one...and two perfect albums at that with the first section being more accessable and lead whereas the Ninth Wave segment showcases a mythical tale....very powerful and perfect...

Solange - True EP...a new addition...its half an hour long but man it showcases something very perfect and simple to get lost in...it alludes to Madonna and Prince in places and brings it to a contemporary world with her own style...produced by Blood Orange.

Madonna - The First Album...Synthpop/Post-Disco/Punk/Funk/Dance its perfect, only 8 songs but they are 8 sublime songs with fantastic lyrics and production and my favorite debut album ever, all about self fulfilment, living life, feeling good and overcoming issues....sublime.

Madonna - Erotica...the House/Acid Jazz/Trip Hop/Lounge/Electronic fusion displayed something very underworld and urban but so damn artistic...a perfectly dark album.

Bjork - Debut...while she herself wanted to move away from this sound/direction on later recordings...this album is a perfect debut in its own right too...showcasing a fusion of styles and a cohesiveness that demands replaying.

Madonna - American Life...its a juxtaposition of Acoustic guitar driven work from Madonna and Mirwais married together with harsh Techno rhythms and an ambience that paints a warm/home coming feel...11 truly contrasting and perfect songs

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Album....i lvoe this soundtrack to the show...every since i got it 13 years ago i still make sure i play it, it is truly something to behold...the changeups of Indie Pop/Rock/Dance styles is truly something.

Madonna Confessions On A Dance FLoor...the idea of every song seguing is just genius....M and Price gel together so well and the production is so three dimensional and on top form...every song could have been a release...it is a personal and functional and perfect album.

David Bowie - Young Americans...so very different from what he did prior or since, the "Plastic Soul" concept works so well here and i adore each song on the album, it is euphoric and feel good with a touch of melancholy about it...reccommend it to anyone.

David Bowie - Station To Station...for me my favourite of his alter egos, The Thin White Duke, i loved this Pre-Berlin Bowie and fusion of Rock and Pop styles together, it paints a journey that for its 6 songs...it is one of the mightiest albums ever...

The Doors - LA Woman...i adore the landscape this album paints....while i love their debut and Strange Days...this is my most played album by them...it paints such a raw atmosphere you cannot help but be drawn inside....absurd and beautiful and yes eprfect!

Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid....it is a storyline told through Funk/Neo-Soul/Jazzy rhythms and it is something to behold...the length and pace marry together nicely that you want to repeat the experience again...

Sly & The Family Stone - Stand!...my favourite of theirs, i adore the ironic tone in their singing style and lyric arrangement, i love the harshness of the Funk sounds across the album too and that togetherness/underdog feel...

Marvin gaye - Whats goin on? I love that it paints a story, a story of being independant and facing turmoils in life and always having a smile on your face no matter what, it is ironic, it is warm, it can be frank...but it is Marvins finest piece..

goldfrapp - Black Cherry....adore the Punk/glam vibes across the album ever since i first got it in summer 2004....it really made me a fan and i repeat it frequently!

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours...its my fave Rock album ever, i love the journey it takes you on, you can really feel the rift between them....they created characters here...long before the Paparazzi fascination with Celebrity....this was their front page story to get listeners invested in their personas...clever but also very raw

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water...lets face it...this album is a complete dreamscape painted here....the bluesy/trippy rock landscape they have rafted was utter genius

Sorry if that was a lot there...but these are albums that have had so many repeated listens since i bought them and thus for me are totally perfectly crafted albums

The Beatles made at least one really incredible album every year from 1964-1969 as well as amazing singles. Add in the songwriting chops of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison plus the production of George Martin and good old Ringo on the drums and you have the greatest band of all time IMO.

A Hard Day's Night (1964), Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver (1966), Sgt Pepper (1967), The White Album (1968) and Abbey Road (1969).

Inxs-Kick

If you're looking for a great year of music look no further than 1987. Besides INXS' "Kick", U2 released "Joshua Tree", Aerosmith released "Permanent Vacation" and Guns N' Roses released "Appetite for Destruction."

Call Kick what you will, a landmark album, a definitive album, it certainly is all that. This along with 'Appetite For Destruction' provided a glimpse of the DIY musical revolution that was about to take place in the early 90's. Before Kick, INXS casually rode the crest of synth-tinged rock, successful but nothing exceptional. Kick captured the essence of a soon-to-be musical shift, music with attitude, sexuality, and non-conformist brashness...with the seductive Michael Hutchence fronting a band of suave renegades. A lot of music in the 80's was about escapism and over-the-top hoopla, Kick signalled that the party was about to end. The album itself is a blend of shimmering guitars, funk-driven rhythms, glossed-over by keyboards, while fronted by a slinky Jim Morrison type in Hutchence. Yet it's the guitar-percussion pairing that gives Kick it's amazing bite, swagger, and groove (Need You Tonight, New Sensation, Wild Life, Mediate, Guns In The Sky) I remember when this album first came out. I also remember the sense of lure and nastiness hearing these songs, how I was captivated seeing Michael Hutchence beckon 'Slide over here' in Need You Tonight. If anything can come out of the death of Michael Hutchence, Kick was the musical zeitgeist, one of the the turning-points, which paved the way for a generation to slide-over to the next decade.

Brilliant as they are, I don't think most Beatles albums qualify for this category for one reason ... they nearly always included a Ringo track. It's a terrible shame, because they had plenty of dazzling material that they could have put in instead.

Marina and the Diamonds - Electra Heart
Abba - The Visitors

I rarely like listening to entire albums because at least one or two tracks are let downs and have to be skipped, but I love each and every track on the above two albums.

Also, thank you for posting this thread. Plenty of new albums to look for, some very good suggestions so far!
