Eastenders will be axed, HMV and cinemas will be shut down, the high street will become ghost towns, people will get fatter and lazier, Pavements will be replaced by Moving walkway, stairs will be replaced by escalators and lifts. DVDs, CDs, Books, TVs and Newspapers will be gone or stop being produced.

I'm quite looking forward to the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies smashing into each other in a few million years time. Shame none of us will be around to see it, although it's probably a good thing. Our Sun will probably be catapulted out of the new combined galaxy entirely, and the Earth might fly out of the Sun's orbit too.

Here's NASA's prediction of what the sky will look like in various phases of the collision.

ID cards will eventually be introduced, probably as another knee jerk reaction to a terrorist attack. Behind that ID card will be a massive government Citizens ID database.

All of your internet communications, websuites you visit and everything you do online will be monitored and tracked. That data will form a core part of the massive government Citizens ID database.

Your mobile and landline telephone calls will also be fully monitored and recorded, and will also form part of the ID database.

Your old fashioned snail mail will also be tracked, opened and scanned too again, forming part of the ID database.

Your every movement will be tracked via the GPS in your phone, mobile phone towers, CCTV systems with facial recognition, black boxes in cars, RFID card ticketing systems and many other means. And yet again, all that data will feed into the Citizen's ID database.

The government will know everything about you, from the moment you are born until the moment you die. Everything you do, everywhere you go, everyone you talk to, everything you say at any time will be tracked, monitored, logged and recorded.

The internet will eventually be a whitelist of allowed sites from the UK, as more and more newspapers manipulate people to call for it to happen, in the wake of horrible events such as the murders of April Jones and Lee Rigby. It will be done in the names of protecting children, protection from terrorism and protection of copyright. Only approved sites will be allowed, sites that are not approved will be blocked. To ensure this actually works the private use of encryption and encrypted online protocols/services such as via VPNs and TOR will be made a criminal offence. Bypassing the whitelist in any other way will also be made a criminal offence.

The use of secret courts will be massively expanded.
The right to trial by jury will be massively restricted.
Legal Aid will eventually be removed.
The right of innocent until proven guilty will continue to be further undermined, with more offences being guilty by default.

Cheery fellow aren't I?.
But the roots are already there, and the laws are already being proposed, with some already being in place.

Don't worry Captain.

It'll all go horribly wrong, the earth will NEARLY destroy itself, but it won't.

And then we'll reach for the STARS.

And Captain Kirk will save us from several disasters.

As long as the older SPOCK is with them, I don't really mind.

(Nimoy was disgracefully beautiful).

All jobs disappearing might be a good thing. Like in the Culture novels, where intelligent machines do all the work to the point where all the organic creatures can choose how they fill their days.
