So it might not of been the biggest surprise but FM5 has been officially announced and coming later this year exclusively to Xbox One.

I cannot stress how much I am personally anticipating this game. So far we have not seen not many details leaked:
A new city track (rumours suggest in Prague)

Two cars were shown (1993 McLaren F1 & 2013 McLaren P1)

New tyre degradation model

Working Headlights

Lots of tyre smoke!
The trailer was confirmed to be running using in-game footage, it also included some commentary, though it is not clear if that was added for the effect or if it's in some way, an included feature.

You can watch the official trailer here

Here are all available screen shots taken from in-game at 1080p.

[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Just jaw dropping detail.

Along with a still image showing the console DVR features interacting with the game here

That's pretty much it so far, roll on E3. This is gonna be big!

Maybe we can have two threads? If not just ask a mod to merge whatever I've written into yours but I think it should be in the Xbox section, it will get buried in general and will be annoying to trapse through looking for it every time I want to update some info.

Anyway,

It's unconfirmed but it certainly looks official and a number of sites including Amazon are using it. Box Art. Notice the Top Gear logo.. Very tasteful box design imo.

I hope for Forza 5 we get a completely re-vamped career mode with all-new tracks with perhaps a couple of tracks from the previous Forza games.

My only complaint with Forza 4 were the track-list was pretty much the same as in Forza 2 and 3 with a couple of additions thrown in. I'd like to see Turn 10 to start again with Forza 5 with a brand new selection of tracks including the 2009 version of Silverstone

I really want Forza 5 and this will probably be the reason I get the X1 at launch. I would like a return of endurance races.

It's the reason I'm going to buy the X1 if 3 and 4 are anything g to go by this will be epic.

And I second the endurance races. If they are revamping the tyre stuff maybe that will be a sign of endurance races.

Spotted this, only a few seconds of new footage but it's all in-game (and now confirmed 1080p @ 60fps)

That's fair enough. There's not much of it to see and it's going to be hard picking out the fine details at a compressed 720p @ 30 fps. I just think back to the leap from FM3 to FM4 on the XBox 360, where they added IBL, much higher polys for car models, improved sound due to new engineer and brand new physics engine and loads of other features. The jump from FM4 > FM5 in quality is going to be significant with the huge gap in power.

Meh, i have grown tired of Forza, it's just the same thing all over again. Same tracks over and over and over, why not increase the tracks and remove a few cars ?

Wow, here it is. [link]

Obviously you can't see it at full decompressed 1080p or at 60 fps but wow!

And a look at the car models [link]

Nothing wow about it. Looks like a 360 game to me.

Anyway, paying £429 to get the same old racing experience? No thanks, I'm bored already

Well it's WOW for me.

Each to their own I guess. Sim's aren't for everyone. Bear in mind you can't see it in 1080p @ 60fps

I’m lukewarm to the game trailers and limited details we’ve been given so far.

I like the improved graphics and stated upgrades to the physics engine/tire modelling. But apart from that I haven’t seen a whole lot else that grabs me yet. I’m not best pleased to read that at E3 yesterday it was confirmed that all cars featured in the game will be available in autovista, it’s a complete 1 off trick and takes up large amounts of the disc space. The trailer was a bit too Project Gotham Racing for me….ie supercars drifting and racing round a fake street circuit, too arcade for my liking.

I want to see the actual ‘racing’ aspects of the game, the depth of the simulation modelling, the dedicated race cars, tuning options, track list, day/night racing and weather etc. I’m still on Forza as it’s the closest simulation racing game on xbox. When ‘Project Cars’ comes out in a few months it will be the only truly dedicated simulation game on Xbox. Forza is the best ‘sim’ of the current crop but in comparison to 100% dedicated sims it falls quite short. The modding aspect is really annoying me in R1/Xclass recently, I’m a very quick driver (currently 58th overall in X) and I can tell reading the telemetry who is running modded cars, there’s too much going on at present. Check out the monthly Le Mans R18 challenge in Rivals mode, I was 4th on the leaderboards the other day for it, along come ‘WCBU’ club and they’re running 10 secs quicker per lap in the stock car, I want to see that abuse stopped. I'm happy getting beaten by a quicker player, but not by cheats, I know the leaderboards are full of them at the moment.

So at the moment I’m very hesitant about saying I’d buy Fm5 and bear in mind I’m an Fm4 diehard, it would pain me to think they take a backwards step with the racing in Fm5. I understand trailers are always top loaded with PR spin so I’m fully open to having my mind changed for the better when we see more. In short what we have seen is nothing yet that grabs me…a sim racer.

I think the bigger issue for Fm5 is the X1, it’s very expensive for stuff you don’t ever truly own. All my gaming friends and I are struggling to buy into the Microsoft philosophy of not actually buying a ‘game’, but instead buying a ‘loan’ to play that game as long as the developers want to keep its servers running. I find it very uncomfortable to consider that a game I love and play could be taken from me when the developers decide they’re moving onto the next thing. My internet connection is patchy at times and I don’t like the fact I might not be able to access ‘my’ games if I can’t sign in online, let’s not even get into the sharing aspect with friends.

Fm5 might look great on paper, but the X1 and Microsoft’s policy of screwing customers may torpedo it. This whole debacle could be enough to push me into PC gaming as I'm thinking of going that route anyway for truly dedicated sim racing, not 'faux' sim which is what Forza is. Another factor is I play Forza to race my friends, the AI is no competition at all, if none of my friends are playing Forza, or worthy opponents, then the game is pointless, I'm not just gonna free lap for months with no aim.

Elisa, they always do this, it was the same with FM3 and Camino Viejo de Montserrat, FM4 and the Burnese Alps and now FM5 with Prague. It's just a pretty new track for those mainstream people to look at the game and think "wow it looks awesome", it's not for the true simheads who this game is aimed at, a lot of money goes into making this game, this is just their way of selling it, hardcore sim fans are the minority. it's the marketing side of it.

Some new footage here, the game just looks/sounds incredible, every car has Autovista mode, it's own career, single player game plays like online, new AI modules are downloaded and added to your profile if you want to play offline, new physics engine (partnerships with Mclaren and Calspan), new official Thrustmaster steering wheel lot's of other things! Dan Greenawalt believes this game proves you don't need a PC to have a true racing sim. Forza is more hardcore than ever before.

Unfortunately this video is only 720p @ 30pfs but can you imagine how nice this looks at 1080p/60?

Are those just really good drivers? Just it looked like hardly any slow down to take corners. Sort of arcadey if you like. Ive never played forza so genuinely dont know but I certainly couldn't drive around so smooth fast and silently as that on gt5, but then im rarely up there with the best of them.
Probably not helping that they are talking over the top of it. Lovely shadows going under the trees.

Some off-screen footage here

the camera has some weird brightness and colour but it shows the game being played with a wheel, some menu's the assists and more info on the physics and the AI. Well worth a watch.

Found some much better footage here! (still off-screen)

Chase Cam
Dashboard Cam

People are using full assists, including steering so you can't really get a good idea of how nice the new physics are until someone experienced plays unassisted.

Also more information regarding the single player career taken from the home page, sounds epic!

Note the use of the word “journey” above, too. Every car in Forza Motorsport 5 is the beginning of a new automotive adventure. That’s because every car in the game features its own Forzavista experience. Walk around the car, pop the hood, and examine the engine in amazing detail. Then hop in the seat and write your own history on the track, whether you’re dicing it out on Xbox LIVE against racers from all over the world, or exploring each car’s customized career highlighting their greatest strengths, most notorious rivals, and their place in motorsport history. read more
