All good choices there but then again, John Hurt is too.

Johnny Depp.

Seriously. It's within the realms of possibility as far fetched as it may sound.
He has a love for some British TV shows and he made a guest appearance on The Fast Show many years ago.

It would have created an even bigger shock than John Hurt appearing.

I can see Ian McKellan doing it.
But I really enjoy the idea the OP had of Roger Moore doing it.

I can see how the role may appeal to him too. In several of his roles where he's depicted characters from the past he's dressed as though he could be The Doctor too.
Sleepy Hollow.
Sweeney Todd.
From Hell.
The Libertine.

All very British.

Yes, I can see how he might go for it.

I doubt that it could work like that. It would have to be the case that he is approached and he wants to agree. No campaign could make that happen.
I also doubt very much that he'd commit to a series. A one-off maybe, but not a series.

I know the last would be controversial given that they are an American but the actor has an excellent British Accent.

Gillian Anderson is from the uk

She's been putting on an American accent in x files etc

U couldn't believe it either when i found out

And Johnny Depp would be pretty good too i reckon. Just get him to act like he did in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas he could play the younger version of John hurt if they ever did a time war movie?(if that's who he turns out to be of Course). Get McGann in at the start. At some point 15 or 20 mins in he regenerates. Then at the end maybe CE could be persuaded, if it's Hollywood enough, to come in for the Regen at the end?

Is this not just a variant on 'who do you want to play the next Doctor' that keeps coming up in new threads?

Peter Firth (who would've been my pick for Doc 6 or 7, back in the day). He plays damaged very well.

She's actually British.

I understand though because it came as a bit of a shock to me a few years ago when I found out.

Just checked up on her - both her parents are American and she was born in Chicago but she did spend periods of her childhood in the UK. So definitely bi-dialectical and probably holds some sort of dual nationality.

She'd still make a brilliant doctor I'm loving her Stella Gibson at the moment.

No she's American (born in Chicago) but was brought up in the UK (London) till she was Eleven when the family moved back to the U.S.

With regards to her accent she uses a British accent when in the UK (where she has lived for the last few years) but uses an American accent when in the U.S.

No I don't think it is. A Doctor-who-wasn't-a-Doctor is very different from imagining who might be next.

Many, though not all, of the above suggestions are based on the fact that a senior member of the acting profession was chosen, that this has to be a character who has been made 'old' by his action, John Hurt has a pretty fine record at playing that sort of thing; he would in no way be suitable for a 3-year run at the role.
