The Field Surgeon

I wonder about, this beautiful boy,
Who lays here in front of me, still,
With skin that only a brute would destroy,
And a life just a demon would kill.

His eyes look at me, yet see nothing more,
For the magic behind them has gone,
Another soul slain by this God awful war,
Just death, where a spirit once shone.

But it bears on the living, to wonder for him,
As another boy waits for my time,
What sins have demanded a fate that’s so grim,
For these lads that were all in their prime.

All About Adam

He never really made a lot of buddies,
He never took great interest in his studies,
He stayed outside the college social scene,
He never bonded with a helpful tutor,
His only company was a computer,
His parents couldn't tear him from the screen.

It's hard to find a girl when you're so puny,
They scoffed at him or shunned him at the uni,
They saw him as a misfit or inept,
No teacher noticed rage begin to bubble
Or thought he would cause any kind of trouble
(Nobody knew about the guns he kept).

It seemed to be an ordinary morning,
There wasn't an alarm bell or a warning
When Adam turned up at the classroom door
And bullets started making targets scatter
And screams replaced the normal mundane chatter,
No lessons can prepare you for a war.

Some asked with twenty-four obliterated
Along with Adam, what had motivated
A student to go hurtling off the tracks?
I guess it's just another brief sensation,
Some breaking news to occupy a nation
Until the next one's had enough and cracks.

FIRE

the perfect fuel is there,
from flame is born a blaze.
I enjoyed this one Ruth, I like the way the fire slowly grew. Another metaphortastic piece

America took a dump
and out came Mister Trump.
Make America Great Again

Some chose to pillory Hillary,
Some even shouted 'Dump Trump'
But I think the next US President
Should have been old Forrest Gump.

Beautiful, sad - and very apt with Remembrance Day approaching. Thank you Elyan

Very moving .....

and begs the question .... are we REALLY the most intelligent species on the planet?
You have to wonder.

Cats

I'm a cat lover, but not a cat owner,
even though I live with three.
It's actually the other way round
MY cats? No. They own me.

I come home from work in the morning
They are pleased to see me indeed.
Is that because they missed me?
More likely they want a feed.

They go outside to the garden
and love to romp and play
But will they do their business there?
Nope! Back inside to the litter tray!

So several times each and everyday
That's a job that I have to do.
Scooping and cleaning and spraying.
Three cats produce lots of poo!

Closed doors are something else
that seem to cause my boys pain
They kick off summat alarming
till I open them again.

And once the door is open
Do the boys ever go through?
Absolutely NOT!
That's not what my cats do.

Clean laundry hanging up
is a magnet, they're drawn to it.
They drag it down onto the floor
It makes a comfy place to kip.

White bedspreads are a NO NO!
I just put one on my bed,
when walked over with muddy paws
You cannot miss every tread.

And food. One day they'll love it
so I go and buy lots of packs.
Next day I put it in their bowls
They huff and turn their backs!

So why do I adore them?
Why do I love them so?
No use asking ME that
Coz I simply just don't know!

I gave her my heart.

She tore apart.

And who gives a fart.

Succinct!

And well done you for getting over the trauma of having your heart ripped out, trodden on and thrown back .....

Cats. Part 2

I tried to send a text today,
one of my boys saw me.
He leapt serenely onto my lap
and helped me press the keys.

He does this also when I'm on
my bed, laptop at the ready.
I know he's only trying to help
but it makes my typing unsteady.

And many times what happens is
I'll be where I have logged on.
A little paw shoots across the keys
and there you go! I'm gone!

So here we have another thing
which makes me mutter for a while,
But that's life when cats own you.
I SO love them and I smile.

Remembrance

It wasn't the eleventh hour of the eleventh day
Nor the month of November.
I seem to recall it was Summer,
that day had cause to remember.

I was working in a Nursing Home.
tending to my friend John.
I remember him so very well,
Sadly he has now gone.

We chatted about his birthday
It was coming up very soon.
Lots of gaily wrapped gifts
were dotted about the room.

Somehow that led us to
My talking of my 21st.
I asked him what his was like?
Into tears he burst.

He recalled that day very well.
He saw his best friend die.
He was fighting in a war.
It brought a tear to my eye.

I often remember John
along with all those boys who died.
It not just Remembrance Day
When the tears fill my eyes.

Her ad lib lines were well rehearsed, my favorite line...(cos songs is where I enjoy poetry)

I didn't know what day it was
when you walked into the room
I said hello unnoticed
You said goodbye too soon

Breezing through the clientele
spinning yarns that were so lyrical
I really must confess right here
the attraction was purely physical

I took all those habits of yours
that in the beginning were hard to accept
Your fashion sense, Beardsly prints
I put down to experience

The big bosomed lady with the Dutch accent
who tried to change my point of view
Her ad lib lines were well rehearsed
but my heart cried out for you

Chorus:
Spoiler

My love for you is immeasurable
My respect for you immense
You're ageless, timeless, lace and fineness
You're beauty and elegance

You're a rhapsody, a comedy
You're a symphony and a play
You're every love song ever written
But honey what do you see in me

(Chorus)

You're an essay in glamour
Please pardon the grammar
but you're every schoolboy's dream
You're Celtic, United, but baby I've decided
You're the best team I've ever seen

And there have been many affairs
Many times I've thought to leave
But I bite my lip and turn around
'cause you're the warmest thing I've ever found

(Chorus)

The relationship?
Surely not the poem?
It's FABULOUS

The poem applies to everyone who has suffered in romance over the millennia and in the present.

The painfully divorced, those unfortunates going through exquisite torture of unrequited love, the lonely, those who have been cheated on and the people who have been secretly despised and then betrayed.

A very cheerful little subject for a weekend I think you will agree.

The correct poem is (drum roll please).

I gave her my heart.

She tore it apart.

And who gives a fart.

Hmmmmm ... I see ..... not so sure I'd agree it's the chirpiest subject for a weekend of laughing, giggling and having a good time ... but then, I tend not to dwell on the deranged idiots who didn't see a good thing when they had it
.... I'd rather concentrate on the highly perceptive, near genius typa guy who DOES see how absolutely, incredibly wonderful a little bit of good loving is

This did make me laugh Keyser I noticed the lack of the word 'it' and I'm so glad you corrected it. Sometimes the biggest emotions are best summed up in the fewest words

Distracted probably by the woman sitting next to me and talking to herself Ruth - it's supposed to be absolute silence on the third floor
