An English Autumn Sunday
Went it well, the Sunday time Or did it leave you jaded? Are you glad Or rather sad Now summertime has faded? Stately homes with bolted gates Enhance the desolation, The ticks and tocks Of Georgian clocks Resound in isolation. Rusty weather vanes that spin And colder days to tackle, A gusty spell Directs the smell Of bonfires as they crackle. Went it well, the Sunday time? To autumn I'm beholden; On Sunday she Revealed to me A canvas red and golden. © |

Hello everyone
![]() ![]() ![]() I'm just wondering when the best time for Seasonal poems is? I don't want to start with all the 'jingly, mistletoe, candy cane, decking the boughs' stuff if it's going to cause mass groaning and "It's too early" comments ![]() Christmas Eve maybe? ![]() Thank you in advance ![]() ![]() ![]()

There are no hard and fast rules - but personally I feel it's a bit early, what with all the shallow Xmas ads on telly I'm sure December will see some entertaining Crimbo poems here

Christmas Fairies
Peer into the Christmas tree and see the world inside It’s filled with festive fairies, wrapping presents for Yuletide The coloured lights are glowing, as fires in their grates They keep the fairies warm at night, when ice is at their gates Look deep into the branches and watch the bauble swings The fairies leap upon the orbs and flutter tiny wings And if you listen quietly , you’ll hear their tinkle laughter Glassy globes their fun fairs, that’s why they're twirling after If you whisper a small greeting and close your eyes so tight You’ll sometimes hear them answer, as they chatter in the night But you’ll never find you’ll catch one, for soon as you go near They melt away to fairy dust , like glitter they appear. Once finished all their presents, the fairies can now rest They curl up in the pine cones, till next years Christmas fest So be careful how you store them, for if you want all wrapping Remember where the fairies hide, deep in the kernels napping. Off you go now Bobbysmom . The floodgates are open ! 🎅

ODE
Just knocking out a little ode. Once read you'll see it showed lots of rhyming overload! Because today it snowed ...................... a shedload. Goodness! I was frozen toed and my cold nose glowed. The lawn wasn't mowed obviously, because it snowed. Then down the rain flowed, and the freezing wind blowed while I struggled and carried a load of chocolate that was marshmallowed. I got them today because I was owed a treat from my friend Sally Spode. Indigestion soon followed eating the sweets from Sally Spode. I thought " Well I'm blowed" that was no treat from Spode! Did I say it snowed? ![]() ![]() Hope y'all can forgive me but I'm posting this simply because it took me AGES to write ................ but it's the WORST thing EVER ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() God loves a trier

I don't think Santa should go on a diet, he needs his layers to keep him warm ![]() Santa’s getting fatter, he struggles on the sleigh The reindeers are all moaning, they can hardly pull away So on a diet set he, no Christmas cake or pies The elves made him a step machine To reduce his chunky thighs. But when poor Father Christmas, began first day of fast He couldn’t bare to contemplate past trifle was his last He snook into the pantry and gobbled down some cake He followed that with muffins The elves did often bake The reindeers caught him at it He’d emptied all the plates Said Rudolf not to worry We’ll just start lifting weights. |

Journeyman
I want to study walls And find the early scrawls Portraying things That happened at the start, To see the first outpouring, The genesis of drawing In caves where man Left meaning in his art. With gulls I long to glide Above an ocean tide, Amid the roar I'd soar with them on high, I yearn to fly with swallows, Investigating hollows Of emptiness Across a windswept sky. I want to dig a heath And burrow far beneath The earth to stare At crevices and leap Volcanic sulphur gorges, A journey to forges Where molten burns The core intense and deep. © |
