Ditto
Ditto to that which I wrote yesterday on this very thread. I refuse to fuel the rumour that poetry is dead. I am quite prepared to come here every day and prop it up till someone else comes along to have a say. Brace yourselves my friends. You know that sometimes my stuff tends to be quite execrable, but as long as it's enough to keep the life blood flowing through the thread I just adore, then I'm going to keep on showing up until you all shout " PLEASE! NO MORE!" Don't think I won't ![]() ![]()

Love
Come love, reveal your world, show me your dreams Where the lost boy finds the gates Of a Gothic castle lit by pale moonbeams And a maiden, patient, waits. On entering, what joy to discover Bright sapphire and other jewels there; Amethyst and diamonds that glint softly In rooms luxurious and fair. I would walk them, love, absorbing treasure Unimagined by kings; Walls hung with paintings that speak Of landscapes forgotten and unique, Sirens casting sea-spells On beaches laced with seashells. Then love, lead me to the chamber where she lies bared And has lived through the lonely hours; An oak-panelled room with satin sheets prepared And the night ahead, ours. © |

A New Home for Christmas
I wonder where I’m going? It’s unsettling not knowing, These people came and put me in their car, And now we’re driving off. I hope it’s not too far. I’m sitting in the back and looking out. There’s lots of cars and people all about, The buildings all have lovely flashing lights, And now it’s getting dark. It’s nearly night! Hang on! I think we’ve stopped. A house with lots of snow upon the top. And a little boy stands watching at the door, I wonder who he’s waiting for? We’ve gone inside! The little boy, with eyes now open wide, Is squealing and jumping higher! And led me to a cushion by the fire. I’ll sit here and wait. It’s nice and warm, and really rather great! These people have style! It would be nice to stay a little while. |

Winters Life
When the light of the star is all clouded and the wind bites cold at the air See the snow fall bitter around us, bright glass descends everywhere Small mice burrow deep in their hollows and huddle together for warm They know mid winter’s for hiding and snuggling close against storm The hedgehogs stir in their shelters, though still sleeping they do not awake For hogletts do never see snowfall, they slumber through cold winter break You won’t see them playing at snowballs or sliding on prickly sleighs As curled in a nest they stay snoring , until springtime shall lengthen the days Yet the Robin is hopping all glory, red breasted proud against ice No need does it have for the burrows , nor hiding away like the mice. Full winter scene is its playground , a symbol that things will renew A joy for those that behold it, a constant as seasons flow through Like the creatures we gather together with hope to keep from the freeze As them we hide in our hollows from a winter which makes us all sneeze But lets try to be like the Robin, with glee we could hop in the snow Rather than be as the hedgehogs, life slept when cold winds a blow Merry Christmas one and all ! My very best wishes to you x |

Father and Son
I kiss his head, and say goodnight This boy who I adore Then quietly dim the bedroom light And gently close the door I think of when I was a child On distant Christmas times An innocence and so beguiled When it was this bedtime I step outside and see the stars That light the quiet skies To darkness they bring light and are A treasure for my eyes The wonder of this winter night That makes a child believe That Santa comes in magic flight With toys on Christmas Eve |

Scoffing
How does it happen that on Christmas day we eat wads for dinner AND tea ? I don't recall the tale of Christ's birth referring to gluttony! Surely we haven't lost the essence of what Christmas really means? I also wonder, does cold turkey go well with baked beans? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The Monastery
Lost my faith in God I’ve not For He alone has kept me sane No reasoning to find for what First led me to this house of pain A thousand years or more has passed Or so it feels to this pained mind But still it’s ovens cannot cast Nor will its tireless pestles grind For strength I find with each new day In faith, alone here in my room God give me strength is all I pray To leave this solitary gloom |
