An unknown friend or neighbour,
come to see the spectacle of a dying woman. Quote:

She should have told me we were not playing hide-and-seek.

Elegy
I walk among faded flowers, toppled grey headstones, binding weeds. A deep faint odour stains my senses. Each stone marks the final deposit of melting tissue and bones. Each stone marks a life summed up in a few letters and numbers. A lost place of pilgrimage, a source of guilty neglect. Why put me in a strange place laying with strange people? |

This made me think of living life at times, not just a final resting place.

Pentre Ifan
While it's common knowledge 'Dead men tell no tales' Somehow Pentre Ifan Tells its own in Wales. Chambers were destroyed here, Sad, the breeze complains, Yet despite what time kills So much still remains. Sixteen tons of capstone Balanced on three points Where an unknown goddess Blissfully anoints. Such a weird creation Near Cardigan Bay; Like a spacecraft riding On the Milky Way. One day I shall linger, Strange as it may seem, Next to Pentre Ifan In a stone age dream. http://www.rock-art-in-wales.co.uk/d...ntre-ifan.html |

toppled grey headstones,
binding weeds. The final line hints that the poem is coming from someone buried actually there, a clever twist.

Good to see Scottie and Flower again. Quote:
Pity about the internet problem - here's me thinking you were slaving over your coming publications. ![]() I'd never given much thought to standing stones until you brought them to my notice. So much of your work is educational. Robert Winstone's contributions were fscinating this morning on "The Wright Stuff". They touched on Michael Gove's plans for the curriculum in schools, and I'd love to think your work would very soon feature from infant schools upwards. ![]() As I've said before poetry is valuable in so many ways. |

I like what Michael Gove's doing in education, but I've found it makes you unpopular if you think that

"You say it best when you say nothing at all" tends to be my attitude (to myself). Saves arguing. ![]() (Song by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz.) I only remember the above lines though, so I don't know it the rest of the song fits what I'm saying.) ![]() ..............It doesn't - I've just looked.

the quiet of the railway tracks
The presence of this railway lacks The city's consternation, The quiet of the railway tracks Encourage meditation. 'No Trespassing' a sign declares, The fence of wire is rusted, Neglected posts without repairs Stand guard lichen-encrusted. No train is due to pass this way And with a pale sun beaming The afternoon will turn the day Into a chance for dreaming. Both left and right I love to peer, The view is my objective As both directions disappear Into the far perspective. Beyond are trees that contrast well With what time has created; A route not used until it fell Green-mossed, marooned and dated. Yet here the silent lines relax, My reverie grows deeper, The quiet of the railway tracks Is held between each sleeper. © |

To The Sea
Ted the duck sat on a boat to guarantee Larry it could float with a shove they set off sailing out to the sea with sandwiches for lunch and pasta for tea.

Love's Labour's Lust
The Queen felt good Evil and scary within the wind An enormous erection beneath the fog 'Twas the King, well hard Stiffer than a Mahogany log Awaken, awaken! The passion rises So lustful within the night The Queen's drawers full of surprises Away with the moon - off with the light! _______________________________ McMahauld |
