I didn't even notice the repetition, but even now when reading it I like it better than the solution. How about :-

"White-bearded on toadstools teeth gritting."

Good of me to complicate things isn't it?

I think I'll have to settle for this Biz, I hope you like it Only the first line's been changed.

Let’s march and make protests hard-hitting,
We hate every pose you deem fitting;
In hats that are pointed
We’re so disappointed,
White-bearded on toadstools just sitting.

By jove, I think you've got it. I've been trying to fit fishing in, but couldn't.

EDIT: What about "We're sick of fishing and long hours" - beginning of verse three?

We should have gone with them. That would be a night to remember.

Hi Flower

Fishing should go in, as many gnomes do it. Here's a possible answer:

We're sick of the grass and long hours
Spent fishing and wasting our powers,
Without any pardon
We're leaving each garden,
Good riddance to ponds, shrubs and flowers.

Hopefully the poem's done now - I do like to get things right. Thanks for the suggestions Biz

Have you considered "So begging your pardon"? Otherwise
I love it. I'll shut up now.

'So begging your pardon
We're leaving each garden'

I like it - that's going in

Lost Gods

Across Easter Island loom figures of stone,
Deserted they stand where Pacific winds moan,
Abandoned by turbulent humanity
They stare off at distant horizons of sea.

The Celts of old Britain gave legends full reign,
Rhiannon on horseback and brave Cuchulain,
The grass shows up lumbering giants of chalk;
On hilltops the outlines of mystery talk.

The Sphinx was delivered from granite-hard lime,
That feline so glad to recline for all time,
Egyptian beliefs fill dark chambers amid
A star world of wonder in each pyramid.

These great ancient traces on sand and on turf
Are fingerprints left on the fast-changing earth,
Though thousands of years have unfolded, they show
The dreams of the ones who prayed here long ago.

A fascinating history you've highlighted there. We humans are strange and amazing creatures.

Why do I find giant stone heads on Easter Island more interesting than office blocks Biz? Maybe it's the mystery behind them. I just watched a fascinating documentary about the Yeti. As a result I can feel a poem stirring

It's definitely the mystery - what was going on in the minds of the people of the time.

There's inspiration everywhere - I'll look out for the Yeti.

Abominable

Most thought I was a silly hoax,
The butt of ridicule and jokes,
While cynics spent their time dismissing
A link I stayed, forever missing.

Abominable Snowmen aren’t,
I feed on berry, leaf and plant,
At human beings I like peering,
Sometimes I watch them mountaineering.

A few believers come to find
What scientists have not defined
And though I’ve not been apprehended
The search for me has never ended.

A trek of miles to pitch their tents,
Despite the effort and expense
What species is the cleverest
Beneath the mass of Everest?

They’ve scoured Nepal and Tibet
But haven’t found a Yeti yet,
My footprint’s photograph was taken,
The one time they were not mistaken.

Frustratingly the trail went cold
Because I hid and truth be told
I’d hate to be on your front pages
Or stuck in labs and zoos with cages.

Where oxygen is always thin
My piercing roar makes such a din,
At seven foot two I stopped growing,
Gigantic in the blizzards blowing.

You cannot find my hideaway
Or trace my unique DNA,
I live beyond the snowy layers,
A shadow in the Himalayas.

The search for Bigfoot, where will it end?
Do we see us making a new friend?
Will he have the answer for where we are going wrong?
Will he have the lyrics for the winning British Eurovision song?

I've put it on record. I caught the very end of the Yeti one, it was on the start of the "Downton Abbey" recording.

I also watch "Homeland". but I can only record or watch two programmes at a time, so have to catch up with "By Any Means" on iPlayer.

We complain about TV content, but there are some good programmes on.
