Magpies
'Good day my lord' if you should cross Its path, the words to say, On fine dark wings The magpie brings A myth that seems to stay. Pure black and white the feathers shine, All fly with much to tell; From every beak Sweet voices speak, Communicating well. Some say that magpies plunder jewels Then craftily depart, But those I've seen Glide down to preen And only steal my heart. © |

When F was S
In days of old when knights were bold And wore metallic sections The English language dripped with gold And needed few corrections. But later problems did arise, Most writers would confess The flaw, to no one’s great surprise Concerned the letter 'S'. The squiggle writing it at haste Required a certain skill, The swivel as the hand moved placed More pressure on the quill. So parchment tore and poets swore Till S was put to death; A charming letter was no more, Replaced somehow by F. It took a while to work it out Yet with the transfer made And F parading all about, Poor S waf in the fhade. Nobody kicked up too much fuff, Though many couldn’t read A different method fuited uf And managed to f*cceed. Then Famuel Pepyf wrote down and moved The earth with much to trumpet; Hif faffinating diary proved He fancied every ftrumpet. John Milton churned out one more rhyme, The quill loft to the pen And language altered one more time Till S waf S again. In truth I’m rather grateful too Or we'd write Frank Finatra, And that French thinker known to you Would now be Jean Paul Fartre. © |

![]() ![]() It's been a bit quiet here of late, but the thread goes ever on - as Bilbo Baggins almost said. There's good news on the American poetry site that folded, it's risen again in a new format. Thankfully, I was invited back The poems are flowing in the mind again, so my mojo is likely to keep the place bumped up Biz, here's the opening of Magpie. ![]() Yef I do Telly was more regional then, a point you made earlier Biz. There's a chance Magpie was only shown in certain areas. I have a poem up my sleeve but a dodgy internet connection keeps blotting me out. If I disappear, you'll know why

Princes of Pop
Phil and Don Everly Harmonised vinylly So cleverly, warbled Lightly never heavily Duo glue will ever be As if a one eternally Bonded in fraternity. Spin on pop siblings You are still the top You tube's dribblings Of you two won't stop. (Frank) |

If you convert text to binary then it dead easy to make it rhythm because it always ends in a 1 or 0.

Phil and Don Everly I was saddened by Don's death and how those great harmonies veiled a rift that lasted years. What a fine tribute to a massive influence - I love the siblings/dribblings rhyme too ![]() Quote:

What crashed at Roswell?
At Roswell cynics always scoff, Believers deem it murky, The nearest town is five miles off By car, that’s Alburquerque. The aura seemed like heaven then, A searing hot July In nineteen forty-seven when Bits fell out of the sky. All day the sun baked desert rock, By evening breezes came Yet Roswell in the pending shock Would never be the same; We’re told an Air Force radar sensed A landing (they all mattered), So routine checks and drills commenced, For debris had been scattered. A team drove to interrogate On Highway 285, One crash site to investigate, Was anyone alive? Approaching torches shone around, Their eerie glow uncovered A night scene where a craft was found And bodies were discovered. Dead aliens lay cold and if A detour led from space, Those creatures soon turned into myth When hidden back at base. As with each poem signed ‘anon’ The sources are denied, False trail or strange phenomenon? I’ll leave you to decide. © |

Star. My species are travellers here from afar. To get any farther we need your star. By all simulations you're going nowhere. So no protestations, we just don't care. It will be quite painless. You won't feel a thing. You're pointless and aimless. Death will soon bring the absolute nothing you always craved for. While you were knocking on Heaven's door, sadly neglecting to feed the poor, Ship sensed the misery in your wake and here we are your star to take. |
