Were you there or here?

I was always there or here
holding my cold pint of beer

I was always there or here
telling a funny joke my dear

I was always there or here
catching your teardrops near

I was always there or here
carrying all your fishing gear

I was always there or here
so put all your more into cheer

my dears

(Should be read in the style of Pam Ayres)

I just typed this out - any good?.

Focus Your Energy

Enthusiasm of endless amounts,
energy never dulled,
focus, focus,
with every glance a new idea blooms,
what to do?.
Set your sights carefully,
scale your goals gradually,
every target fulfilled is a victory,
Rome wasn't built in a day
but with your energy focussed correctly
anything may be possible?.

Sorry to hear that Housegirl I didn't know he wrote poetry.

Sky over yonder
carpet of green
Lovely Sandy

Focus Your Energy
It's something I try to do every day Izzy - a good poem and one that reminds of time I've wasted in the past. It's 'seize the day' from now on

Titanic

I Launch

1912 at springtime,
Southampton the stage,
A crowd had flocked, one vessel docked that symbolised the age.

Built to outclass rivals
And to cruise and shine
For the nation, this creation of the White Star Line.

Sweat and toil produced her,
Craftwork had prevailed
Every minute and within it, treasures were unveiled.

Ornamental staircase,
Chandeliers that glared,
Lovely channels on wood panels, no expense was spared.

Problems were considered
Quite unthinkable,
Messianic and titanic, so unsinkable.

Passengers were ready,
How unreal things seemed,
On the quay there in the sea air maiden voyagers dreamed.

Engines activated
As she sailed away,
Pistons heaving, proudly leaving for the USA.

What a special feeling
Waving them farewell,
Goodbye Blighty from the mighty floating sentinel.

II Collision

Captain Smith gave orders,
Coal propelled the force,
All-surpassing, miles were passing steady and on course.

Night time, mid-Atlantic,
Here the vast ship led,
Unaware fate had prepared great danger up ahead.

One iceberg approaching
In the pitch black void,
From disaster, steering faster, hoping to avoid.

Then the starboard's metal
Suffered injury,
Manufactured yet it fractured, letting in the sea.

Lifeboats short in number,
Confidence ensured
More weren't needed, but when heeded panic quickly soared.

Man's inherent folly
Progress always shows,
Sinking slowly, nothing holy saved the ones who froze.

Like a scene from legend,
Terrible the roar,
Powers ended, she descended to the ocean floor.

III Today

Rust corrodes hard iron,
Microbes eat the past,
Years of time created grime, her splendour couldn't last.

Though the wreck is silent
Whispers still remain;
Sometimes sound flows all around, a beautiful refrain.

If the band are playing
Spirits come to waltz,
They sigh or weep inside the deep seabed of their own thoughts.

Sound Track

Thrashed chords crash through the air,
the soundtrack of long-ago nights of careless enjoyment,
unconscious of the spectacle or inhibitions
of an age when the moment is all.
No need for restraint or fear of looking the fool.
Part of the group, at one with the smoky racket,
wet tables and blurred staggerings across the floor to the door in the corner.
Take the chance to lean on the wall and smile to yourself
before launching yourself again through the thick mass of the crowd
somehow finding yourself back in the right place
and bang in the middle of the conversation.
Blurred nights of enjoyment to live forever
and not condemned to the thick head of the morning.

How is this for a bit of inane nonsense?

What to say,
when there's so much going on,
the choice is overwhelming -
how do I know what to say,
what about just saying this,
is this ok?.

*ahem*

Thrashed chords crash through the air,
the soundtrack of long-ago nights of careless enjoyment,
This brought back memories of my youth Scottie - I went to quite a few raucous concerts. Rush was one of the loudest I've actually lost 12% of my hearing from listening to rock music

The Royal Oak

It may not lure a baron
Or those who wear a crown,
But served by Matt and Sharon
You won't leave with a frown.

They keep the Royal Oak going,
On good times you can bet;
The beer and laughs keep flowing
And Albert is their pet.

He never wears a muzzle,
A tame pub dog he is
And if you like a puzzle
On Sundays there's a quiz.

Teams make informed suggestions,
While they scratch heads and sup
Old Dennis asks the questions,
Who tends to cock them up.

No live band plays a bummer,
As well as guitar licks
The Morris Men each summer
Dance round and bash their sticks.

Some say I am a loser
But I'm a loyal bloke
And when I choose a boozer
I choose the Royal Oak.

Somewhere

I see the young
and old of you
how you change
how you were
and still are
a little lost
somewhere.

I beg to differ. There have been some marvellous poems sent in over the four threads. At least we're having a go. I'd rather be creative than just knock, but that's a common British habit sadly.

Sorry I've been absent recently. The final stage of putting the book together has taken up a lot of my time. I'm hoping for a December release

God is in the Flowers

God is in the losses
Caused by every foe
God is in the crosses
Where the mourners go

God is in the towers
And the swords and shields
God is in the flowers
God is in the fields

Older and with age, there is also the notion of becoming a little wiser over time.

Laugh

I heard you laugh
a joy to hear
a chuckle between us
though quite dear
humour is rare these days
let laughter be the latest craze.
