I think they are headed in a direction that they hope pleases the actual fans of the show as opposed to futily chasing the TOWIE, Geordie Shore demographic that they have done in the past few series.
I think that some aspects such as Rylan is a comprimise to help keep some of the fans that were happy with the direction of the show in the last few series and essentialy keep one foot in the door to that audience.
That being said...

In the past some of the spin off show presenters were clearly not regular Big Brother watchers and their presenting style was more of jokey/mock the show. It depends what style of presenters people want but I'm interested to hear what the OP's suggestion for new main show presenter was.”
Watching the show from a perspective of a fan and being directly involved are two different things. Davina was a fan but by the end it was debatable whether she'd even watch a full episode of the HLs.
Emma Willis seems to have different takes on the show now from when she used to guest on BBLB. Part of that is the party line of course but then I think that how Jamie East (someone who was never a fan) said if he was not involved with the show he'd have blasted the decision to let Rylan leave but working on it gave him a different perspective on the matter. That it was important to have a relevent big name that concessions had to be made.
