There's never just one reason why someone wins, and if they aren't likeable then people don't vote for them.
Sam BB7 had a fairly similar back story to Nadia but it wasn't enough.

You asked a question and I answered it.

“I think your love for a certain housemate is clouding your judgement. If you read the OP you'll see I discuss various former winners.”

But not on equal terms. Somehow everyone else you introduce is only there to be better than Luke. Almost as if you have got a bit wary about public ridicule in some previous life, so you are trying to disguise your obsession now.

Sadly for you, I have a thorough nature, and it is no trouble at all for me to look through your 490 posts. There is nothing even remotely positive about Luke A under the particular name you are using at the moment; if you have posted positively about him you might be kind enough to give us the forum name to look under, or even more kindly give us a repetition; I would be genuinely curious to hear your positive views. In the meantime, some more to add to ABCZYX's collection:

Quote:
“Gos probably was quite boring but put him in last series and he would have been the life and soul of the house. That's how bad last series was. A terrible series with an instantly forgettable winner.”

Quote:
“Yeah, happy birthday to Luke A.

He probably is the worst winner. Last year was a terrible series and the winner was instantly forgettable. Some may argue Cameron was a worse winner but for me Cameron had more of a personality and was actually quite funny at times. I don't remember Luke A ever being funny.”

Quote:
“We're all hoping for big improvements this year. Ultimately the selection process failed us last year. We had no big characters, nobody who will really be remembered in years to come. Luke A winning just about summed up the series for me. An instantly forgettable winner.”

Quote:
“I'm hoping they can find some big characters. Last year was a dreadful series with an instantly forgettable winner. Not one person stood out from last series. None of them will be remembered fondly.”

You have also described Conor as "so endearing" and insisted that if he had not taken the £50,000 he had a very good chance of winning. Nothing nice about Luke A then, but quite a few posts defending Conor.

I think that's unfair. I'd agree it was probably a big part in why she was picked as a HM, but by the end it wasn't a major reason why she won. Love her or hate her, she was hugely entertaining.

And using "backstory/ mercy votes" eliminates Craig and Pete. Okay no-one was probably going to pick Craig, but Pete was entertaining to lots, just not my cup of tea.

I wasn't a big fan but yes, she was a huge personality in the house and got a boatload of press throughout the whole series. It is such lazy thinking to bleat that someone 'won because of their story'. As meglos points out, being debatably transgender did Sam no good at all; Nikki's tragic back story was given huge publicity during BB7, far more than pete's, and much good it did her. Verne Troyer did not win even though it was revealed during his series that he not only had major disabilities but his life expectancy was poor. Kitten describing child sexual abuse (which appears to have been lies, but we did not know that then) did not stop people finding her a tiresome pain in the arse. The world wept along with Richard when we heard about his mother's cancer treatment, but I don't think it got him a single vote. Liam's mother's severe brain damage seemed to elicit as much derision as support, with a truly depressing number of people thinking it hilarious to suppose that his mother was 'in a korma'.

On its own, a good back story gains nothing at all for a housemate. They have to generate interest on their own account; if they generate enough of it, the back story can become interesting in its own right.
