Nook

I bought a Nook Simple Touch from Argos a couple of days ago and I have received an email saying that its faulty as in not being able to download ebooks. It says that they will send a replacement for me and I send my faulty nook back. They said I only need to send them my home address.

I went on my nook and tried to buy a nook book and I had problem registering my credit card because it only accepted US address. I went on Nook website to see if I can register my card there, bought a cheap book to see if it works.

It didn't come up on my Nook. The next day I used the live chat with Nook website and got it sorted so could see the ebook on my nook. I couldn't open it on there so on live chat told the technician and was told it was not compatible apparently and it was going to be refunded to my card.

I bought another book on the site and now I can read on my nook but I still can't buy directly from my nook but that is no big deal I can always buy from website or just download from my computer.

Sorry to be long but I thought it might ring a bell with other readers here.....now

On that day chatting with the person I mentioned the email but they didn't say anything about my nook needing replacement. But today I received an email back saying they are going to send me new nook and there is an attachment on the email with a return label. Now this is interesting because the return label is to Poland. I don't feel its genuine.
Even the email, the first one has a spam tag on the title from outlook.

Has anyone else got something like this. I think something fishy is going on, I feel they are tempting me saying I will get a new nook so that I get excited and hurry and send my original nook back to this Polish address, Why would Nook UK have an address in Poland?

Why not return it to Argos?

No reason for Nook not to have their base in Poland. A lot of companies don't have their main European base in the UK.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have a problem with it being Poland, its just why won't they suggest as you say go back to Argos? I don't have a problem with purchasing, as I said I can always buy from the website. It was them that contacted me first out the blue saying there is a problem. Another thing as I explained in my post when I had a chat to technical they never suggested they wanted it back.

I just posted to see anyone else had a similar problem with their Nook because if there is a problem with Nooks I shouldn't be the only one.

I have had my nook for a few weeks and no issues. In fact I am enjoying it more than the kindle it replaced.

I didn't really have any problem either lol. I only just received another email from them

'Thank you for writing to us. We apologise for the difficulties you are experiencing.
We are eager to resolve your problem, but require more information. Please respond to this email with the following:

-Serial Number
-Email address
-type of the device
-billing address
''

I never wrote to them as such either. I got the email from them first, which made me curious because it said I had ''issue'' with purchasing books. I never said to them I had a problem, the email was out of the blue. I was actually using it to download my uni book from my computer not interested in buying novels tbh. So that was just to see if I had a problem with purchases as they say. So not sure why they keep writing to me about this ''issue''

You said you spoke to them on Live chat though which is where they have got your contact details from and I'm assuming they are trying to help resolve the problem that you had.

I just amended my recent post Alan.
No I didn't contact them first at all, they send me an email first saying there is a problem with purchasing on nook. Then I got curious book a cheap nook book on the official website and couldn't see it on my nook, that is when I contacted the webchat.

They might have my email when I registered my nook when I first got it.

Thanks for the reply. That seems a bit complicated though.
I think you are right because on my nook I can't buy books. I got it from Argos and I would take it back for a replacement but there aren't any in stock and they all might be the same version even if they get back on stock.

I think my safest bet is to just keep using this one, I really only want to read my college stuff on there.

Another matter, how is this rooting a nook works is it easy and safe to do?
