A couple of days ago my kitten tripped me up and i dropped a plate which landed near him. He ran and hid behind the sofa.
Now he wont come near me unless i have dreamies in my hand , he no longer curls up in my lap he sits on a chair away from me. He ignores me if i call him too.
The only time he'll sleep by me is if i'm in bed he'll curl up next to me but is very nervous.
He is 12 weeks old now. Has the plate being dropped made him scared of me?

Don't worry, he most prob got the fright of his life when that happened, he will come round again. Just keep acting normal and being nice to him. Maybe do a bit of "I'm just playing with this bit of string/ ball/ toy mouse..all by myself..." to tempt him to come out of his shell a bit

Happened to me when I got my latest addition, took him a week to start coming up and saying hello again!

You kitten is probably still worried about plates. It does happen. He will grow out of it. My cat is 8 and suddenly she is scared of a couple of her toys.

he associates you with the big scary noise, he'll come around once her realises you're the one with the yummy food and treats, maybe try to get him to play with you and then once he comes to you give him a treat...

He is sleeping on my feet right now which is a good sign.
I put his favourite mouse toy by me and he came over and played a bit before sleeping.

What a beauty your cat is I love black cats. A pet shop near me had two kittens, one was a tabby and the other was a black one. Couldnt believe it that the black one was £80 and the tabby was £120.00 I don't like the idea of cats being sold in pet shops at all.

I paid £40 for my kitten. The person i had him off was only charging for them to ensure they went to a good home which i can understand.

I'm suprised anyone would shell out £120 for a moggy - especially as the shelters have many kittens looking for homes which will be chipped, neutered and innoculated for roughly a £60 donation.

He's gorgeous, gother - but I must question the wisdom of you wearing shorts near a kitten. When mine were little, it took me ages to get into my full-body anti-kitten gear in the mornings.

Haha oh dear!! But they're so lovely, and so worth it. Enjoy your little lad, gother.

I've got a scaredy-cat who has the strangest ability to forget good habits yet learn bad ones so fast. I know pets can do that, but it's so hard to tell her off for her bad habits (eg jumping up and trying to take toast out of my hand) because she hides behind my bed for a fortnight after a stern word - or even after a stern word at one of the other cats! A plate breaking near her would have her hospitalised for stress, I think. It sounds like your lad's definitely coming around, so well done.

Back to square one neighbour started drilling and now Spartacus is terryfied he wont come out from behind sofa.
I'm going to try laying out a few dreamies later for him just in a line towards me and see if he'll come out.
I hate seeing him so scared.

one of mine ( Cookie) hates the noise of the drill and the people downstairs seem to drill holes almost everyday, i think its more to do with the vibration than the noise because no other noises scare her, shes got a hidey place where she feels safe and i know when the noise starts thats where she'll be ...spartacus should soon learn that the scary noises cant hurt him and he'll feel safer. He'll find his safe place and will come out when they stop.
cats are funny things, one of mine (Pea) is scared of everything, she always has been, she was found in a box , with her 2 sisters ,that someone had dumped onto my mums rubbish on bin day (luckily i heard them meowing when i visited) , so its not surprising shes scared but shes almost 10 now and every loud noise scares her... Her hidey place is up high, shes got a basket on top of my wardrobe and the chest of drawers next to it means she can get there easily, she feels safe when she can see everything, the vet has basically told me because i made a fuss of her when she was scared its my fault shes the way she is...their advice is to just ignore the noises and carry on like normal and the cats will do the same.
and all 3 of mine are petrified of the hoover, Mac was scared of everything when i got him, the noise of the toilet, the tv, plastic bags...now its just the hoover and he's learnt that from the other 2...
basically thats a alot of waffle to say hopefully when spartacus learns the noises wont hurt him he'll be fine.

I think there will always be things that will scare him. There can't be many cats who remain oblivious to the hoover, thunder or fireworks for example. Its quite a natural survival reaction and it maybe best to let him come out of hiding at his own pace.

I on't understand how anyone can just dump cats/kittens like that its sad.
I'm glad you found them when you did.
I'm thinking of getting him a playmate from the cat protection home but i need permission of housing association first. They only let me have Spartacus because i kicked up a fuss and threatened to go to paper as some tenants had dogs in the block.

He doesn't mind the hoover much unless it comes near him. He hates the sweeping brush though and runsa mile upon site of it. Whereas with the hoover he'll sit at adistance watching it swishing his tail lol.
