Totally agree. Proper roasties are heavenly!

I usually buy a ready made nut roast but do the veg and roast potatoes myself. I even make the veg gravy myself.

Well I bought one. Pleasantly surprised tbh! No way was it dry or overcooked, in fact it was very juicy and it just fell apart. I went to pull a leg off and the bone just came out on its own! Took a lot of discipline to stop myself devouring it all before it went on the plate with everything else! Plenty of meat on it as well.

Best part was there was a lot of juice in the bag it came in, so I used that with some flour, water and a handful of chicken gravy granules to make some awesome gravy.

I'd recommend them. Pricey at £4.33, but I think with the convenience and saving on gas, as well as not worrying about bugs (as they're cooked with safety in mind I believe), I think it's well worth it. Just wish they did a garlic version!

lol, I meant bacteria such as salmonella etc. I'm pretty sure they have to make certain that the chicken has to reach 75 degrees in the middle by way of using temperature probes. I know that people often worry about bacteria and overcook their food as a result.

Funnily enough, I worked on the pizza counter for a bit in Asda and I'm sure the guys next to me used such a probe. Funnily enough I was due to start on the rotisserie but had completed my seasonal stint before I got the chance. Got called back at Xmas but was working elsewhere by then. Can't say I was devastated..

Absolutely! I would never, ever cheat on the roasties and but frozen ones. I cheat on the Yorkshire puddings and sometimes ill buy one of the pre cooked chickens - they're fine.

I very occasionally buy a Waitrose corn-fed rotisserie chicken, but not to have as a roast dinner. We usually leave it in the fridge to cool and use it to make sandwiches for picnics or whatever. They are quite nice - not as nice as roasting your own, but much better than using that pre-sliced and packaged cold chicken. It's a good compromise between the two.

Delete one of the 'funnily enough's. You choose which one

Not actually a cheat, more financial sense. I do a second day roast if I've bought lamb, pork or beef joint. Simply make enough gravy for two days, warm through the slices of meat in the gravy and do the whole rigmarole of home made roasties, veg etc.

It's a chicken! It's roasted. Great with chippy chips on your junk food night

I have bought them in the past but you need to check the label. It will have the time the label was printed on it (ie, when it was put in the bag). Don't buy it if it is more than 2 hours before you got there. If they are in the hot counter where the assistant has to serve you, don't be afraid to ask what time they were cooked at. If they are fresh, they can be nice.

Saying that though, I wouldn't substitute one for the Sunday roast meat, I can cook chicken at home infinitely better.

If I buy a rotisserie chicken it will be mid week when I haven't got time to cook one.
