Is he?

He suffers from very severe depression so a) don't judge him too harshly, and b) I hope he doesn't do big brother because that will mess with his head.

Well as I don't know how his illness affects him I can't say. Its just a couple of interviews he did on radio about birds and wildlife, he seemed rather unpleasant; whereas I used to like him before.

Pretty sure anyone considering entering the BB house is more likely to know what they can cope with.”

Someone who has severe depression like Bill Oddie would not be able to survive and confirm to the rules and the pressure of the BB house. I'm sure everybody realises that depression can affect anyone and at any time and nobody is doubting this.

If you have an exiting mental illness then without wanting to ruin your reputation you'd be heading for a public meltdown. Look at poor Paula attacking a policeman with a sunflower or Shabbaz threatening to kill himself

On the one occasion I met Bill Oddie (at the height of the Goodies) he was a big disappointment and totally lacking in humour without a script. If they reinstate live feed he could tell us which birds are tweeting I guess.

Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden from the Goodies can still be heard quite often on Radio 4 things like Sorry I haven't a Clue. Both witty and intelligent men who would probably do better than Bill in the BB situation. I don't dislike Bill just making the point that he probably isn't particularly funny off script.

Good, he really isn't suited to be a BB housemate.

I'm glad.

Someone mentioned his appearance on NMTB as an indicator he might be a good value HM but I couldn't say I agree. Most of that humour of that episode was derived from the presenter and panelists finding his attempts at humour annoying.

That makes it sound like it wasn't his choice tbh

Bill was always very scathing about BB when he presented Springwatch (the 2 shows used to be on about the same time) so I think he said "Well, folks what do you think?" in a "you know me better than that" kind of way.

Comedy hero - wildlife hero - grumpy old git hero. Love him to bits.

Springwatch was originally launched as a rival for BB, it used to be on at the same time to compete and so he used to make jokes during the show about our wildlife live and interactive against humans live that was when Channel4 was getting massive ratings in the first years.

He took time out of Springwatch due to a very bad depression he was suffering. When he was much better a few years later, they had him on as a guest. But he said that they would not offer him a presenter job back

I think Big Brother would have been really wrong for him and he might not have passed the psych tests, some other celebs are rumoured to have been rejected! he is very entertaining though but glad he turned it down. I felt very uncomfortable seeing Paula Hamilton there last year

is he really the right sort of person for BB?”

I'd have thought he's the IDEAL candidate for them !!! Since Les Dennis began talking to the chickens, and Vanessa went stone mad with the marker.... they badly need a bit of a meltdown !!!
