Why does BT have to be the gateway telecommunications company that everybody else has to go through?

Because when they were privatised the people who bought the shares basically bought all of the ducts, exchanges and cabling.

They didn't have any competition for years and years and by the time other companies wanted to compete it was too late. Now it's just too expensive to dig up roads to set up a competing network.

No they are not, the person that claimed it didn't even post any speedtest actual links only screenshots, and not enough information to show anything. When users uploaded very fast 3 speedtest he complained that they didn't upload speedtest links!

no they are not, was most likely a technical glitch or capacity issues in your area.

More info on the ever expanding iPhone throttling mystery.

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/...ee-us-carriers

To be honest it all makes little sense to me. Until recent I always thought throttling was an individual thing done per device/contract at the network end.
Contrastingly that LTE white list makes sense.

Very interesting! I wonder if this is done in the UK as well? Apple have always been very underhand so not too surprising I guess.

Nobody has really confirmed it all. It could be yet another load of rubbish done to generate web traffic profit.

Yet that confirmed LTE thing obviously had already got people curious.

It seems Verizon is adamant it is not them doing the throttling and you need to 'speak to Apple'

Looks like he might have had his 2nd take down request. The inner linked guys blog on this one is currently still in Google cache.

The guy who wrote the 'ugly truth' page sounds genuine and in the US I'm left part wondering if all the throttling, or at least the LTE throttling there, is at the behest of A T & T.

^^^

Apple has a pretty cosy relationship with the networks in the US, and I bet it's the networks requesting it to try and stop their rubbish 3G infrastructure from collapsing.

Yes three are throttling my speed.I was out around a couple of different places in Scotland at the weekend and it was the same speed test results at all the places I was at.looks as if they are going down the T-Mobile route to slow everybody down just before 4g launches.then try and get everybody on the higher tariff

Three aren't doing 4G as a separate tariff it will be a standard thing so that isn't true. I haven't experienced any throttling at all. I go various places and in upgraded areas I got an average of 8-14MB and in non-upgraded areas 4-6MB. Though the upgraded areas are becoming more and more common to find.

If you are truly getting throttled i am sorry to hear that but scotland is one of the least upgraded places at the moment.

I've not experienced any slow downs either. In fact, I did a speed test at my desk this morning and it was faster, both down and up (14.9/2.2 Mbps).

There is a bottleneck on most networks at peak times.

I'm quite hoping that 4G will give us more consistent 3G speed.

I think the best part of 4G is going to be the increased indoor/rural coverage and better speeds for all when it fully out. Even rural areas on 2x5MHz of 800MHz should get 10-15MB on LTE which compared to what they get now is going be good.

A good percentage of the places I cycle to do not even get 2G.
Few of the frequencies are suitable for even moderately hilly terrain.

Sorry hear that I hope the main and some secondary commuter routes at least get covered as a solid connection is useful when travelling. Sounds like you would need a Sat phone I do think EE's plan to cover Cumbria is a very good idea as many of those places will likely never get Fiber and LTE will be the best connection.
