Can you get Now TV live streaming on YV, or just on demand videos?

Might be worthwhile signing up as long as you remember to cancel in 6 months time. It's definitely not worth £15 per month!

And what is the streaming quality like? 720p, 1080p? Or just SD or below SD quality?

In that case then it's not even worth £15 for 6 months. I'll stick with Netflix or LoveFilm

Thanks for letting me know about this, signed up even though I have sky it's cheaper than multiroom and until ps3 get their acts together and get sky go this is a nice substitute.. Not worth £15.99 a month IMO

I have this on my ps3 and whilst I can't confirm it, I would definitely say better than DVD quality possible 720p

Sky apparently decided not to stream in HD to avoid 'damaging' their premium offerings (i.e. Sky Movies HD via a dish).

However, the world has moved on and people expect at least DVD quality, and preferably 720p or better from a movie streaming service.

So no wonder they are desperate - their plan is failing. Sub-SD on a 43" TV I ask you? Do they really expect to be taken seriously?

This is one-way traffic now towards online, and Sky need to stop clinging to their existing business model and get with it w.r.t. online services for non-DTH potential customers.

I have never got anything near 720p let alone DVD, I know it's not my connection as I can switch to netflix and it is superHD with no problem.

Which is their conundrum. Because that Sky 'lock in' (have to buy a package to get to a package) existing business model, is the goose that laid the golden egg, where their concerned.

They do offer HD TV via Now TV, but not on YouView. They also offer live TV too. But again, not on YouView.

Mind you, their definition of 'HD' is certainly a loose one, as its about comparable with a good quality Netflix SD stream.

In short, it's overpriced garbage compared to what users can get from other internet providers. I believe they have made this '£15 for six months' offer because they don't want to present/show churn on their subscriber numbers. But that is just my personal opinion.

I have always thought Now TV seemed dear compared to LoveFilm,Netflix or the BT Vision player TV unlimited.
I do like watching films but not everyday.

At their normal price of £15, or even their 3 month introductory price of £8.99/month, it is too expensive for the video quality on offer. But at £15 for 6 months, I thought it was worth a one time punt.

Ah, sorry, I thought you meant it was a limitation of the 6 month offer. My bad.

Agree, I went for the Ps3 beta for £1 a month for 3 months and the quality is awful.

Sent a message via sky message boards and they pointed me to a FAQ

You may experience buffering or small instances of reduced quality. This will occur for the for first generation PS3 users when connected to the internet wirelessly.

We are currently investigating a permanent solution for this however temporarily it can be resolved by connecting the PS3 to the router with an Ethernet cable.

Beta
A public beta version of our Sony PlayStation 3 app is now available. Take a look here for more information about why we're in beta.

i can understand that it is in beta, but that should not affect the quality surly.

My Ps3 is not first generation, it is a older machine yes, but not first and it is connected via Ethernet.

Wow, I signed up and I have to say I have never seen such bad streaming video quality. From the couple of things I have seen, it is almost unwatchable on my iMac. Even Demand 5 is better and that is free.

Hmmmm, maybe Richardcdon should have mentioned this since his link is a referral.

Is it possible to cancel this, or am I really stuck for 6 months of monthly payments for video quality worse than anything else out there?

The email confirmation that I got after signing up suggested that it could be cancelled any time as it was taken as £2.50 per month for six months and then automatically went to full price. You may be able to cancel now and just pay £2.50 for a months worth.

The quality is not good, but I'm watching at normal TV viewing distances, and I can put up with it at this cheap price for films I won't get to see via Netflix.
