I've been happy with the PQ of NowTV when watching through two different XBox 360's. I've been getting the white "HD" symbol in the on screen display of the Xbox. I've not tried a Roku but noticed the LT's are only £39.99 now. I'm also trying NowTV on a PS3 too and I'm planning to stream the same film at the same time via an XBox 360 and PS3 to compare the quality this weekend, if I get the time. I haven't bothered to try NowTV on my YouView box because I know it's SD only. I've also not understood why anyone would care for the live channels when everything showing on the can be streamed from the start almost instantly.

I like to browse through the films on my iOS devices, select what I want to play, play it for 1 second, stop it and then resume it from "My TV" on the Xbox 360. Saves a lot of navigation on the console.

Overall I prefer the service to traditional subscription based Sky Movies given I can pause/resume and switch between devices. There's also no waiting for films to download to a Sky box a bit before they can be watched. Hopefully will see PQ improvements soon.

^^ It sounds amazing that you can get an HD video on your XBox, but on a browser, I'm getting far below SD.

It is also a big pity that they don't support AirPlay. I know what you mean by searching on an iPad. I often think that the iPad makes the perfect platform to browse large video libraries - it is so easy to simply flick and swipe between genres and shows. With AirPlay, it would just automatically play on your television (via ATV of course).

Has anyone reported better video quality with the Roku boxes? Anything resembling SD or even HD?

I've not tried a Roku but believe it to be the only other device that supports HD other than the Xbox 360.

Yesterday I compared the same film on the same television using the same broadband connection when played on an XBox360 and a PS3, from NowTV. The PQ was substantially better using the XBox compared to the PS3, the former being HD. I'm hoping for PQ improvements on the PS3 given it is only beta software at the moment.

It's important to note that there is more than one Roku model on the market, and the lower-end (cheaper) ones do not offer HD.

They do 720p, which last time I looked was classed as HD.

No idea if Now TV takes advantage of that though.

I can only offer my own experience.

I have a Roku XS which is capable of 1080P, but for my 7 year old Sony TV only supports 1080I
NOWTV through this offers DVD quality picture rather than HD
I'm quite happy that I've only ever been charged 8.99 a month since I started the 3 month free offer 6 months ago.
If I do find no films I want to watch ill simply suspend the ubscription until there is something worth watching.

I don't really understand why people re so negative.

The sky sports offering is another matter.
So far I've only used free daily passes, and cannot see a scenario where I'd ever pay the retail price of 9.99 a day.
In my view Sky have badly miss judged the NOW TV Sky Sports product.

I'd love to know what their income has been so far for NOWTV Sky Sports.

Now Tv are a nightmare, i received the email offer, clicked the link & was charged £8.99 for a month instead of £2.50. So i emailed them. The reply was, that there was nothing they could do & they had closed the account & refunded me.

Then i received an email saying they had realised the mistake & would still charge me £8.99 but automatically refund me £6.49.

Anyway of course they had closed the account, Saturday night i spent ages in their web chat & they said they would have to delete the account & iv have to sign up again. So i set up a new account but when it came to payment it would'nt except the promo code. Lots of apologises & was told it would take 24 hours to fix.

Last night i tried again promo code worked, i got charged the right amount iI watched a movie & thought finally all sorted. Nah, Ive just received an email saying they've closed my account again. Im at my wits end. So if you want my advice, if you get the promo email, just delete it this company is a joke.

After spending hours online with the now tv web support i asked them to close the account & refund my money. They even gave me a link to a groupon offer £14.99 for 6 months plus 5 free sports passes. But like all their other promo's they've offered me when you go to sign up they want to charge £8.99 per month so iv informed them i'm going to contact the advertising standards agency.

This has been standard practice for Now from the start - charge the full price but refund the difference. I'm sure there's some complicated software/accounting interface reason for it that a programmer could fix in 10 minutes.

When it says "Powered by Sky Movies" can you watch everything that's on Sky Movies on Now TV?

Including the Friday premieres?

Sorry if i'm being thick.

yes im sure.. the hdmi wont produce 5.1 like magic,,my other devices all have optical sockets,, that go into a IN optical switch and the out goes into the home cinema amp...then when broadcast its in 5.1
all the nowtv hdmi amp does is show a picture and sound in the tellie speakers..

thinking of taking this, but how does it work?

do you i receive a little box that connects to tv/internet? and if so do i pay for the box extra?

or is it just an app/website i use to access?

You can use it a number of ways. You can watch directly off a web portal, but video quality is shocking.

You can also use a dedicated iOS app, but again, the video quality is horrible and Airplay is blocked.

Some Smart TV's have an app as well.

I have heard the playstation platform and Youview allow viewing and with good quality feeds.

But if you don't have any of those methods, you can also buy a small Roku clone for £10 which will also get you the BBC iPlayer and Demand 5!

Personally, I think this is an amazing deal and the iPlayer and Demand 5 work with no subscription.

Still confused
Maybe it's your amp that won't do 5.1 via hdmi? I have several boxes that do 5.1 over hdmi.

I'm beta testing Now TV on my LG Smart TV. The picture quality for films is not bad, (better then Sky SD, not as good as Sky HD via satellit) even though it only comes in at 3.1mb and there is no DD5.1 sound.

^^ Actually, the movie channels are also (oddly) available live.

You can go to the live channels, and it will show what is playing. You can either choose to watch them live, or alternatively you are given the choice to watch from on-demand.

Why anyone would want to start watching live, half-way through a movie hasn't yet dawned on me, but maybe there is something I am overlooking.

I could understand more if they offered the standard TV channels live. But I suspect if they do, that would be at an additional cost.

I've got a trial Sky Now subscription (6 months for £2,50 per month) and I have to say, I think the Now TV box works great with this. I was totally unimpressed with this service when I first saw it on the computer and iOS. Then, the video quality was pretty bad, and iOS didn't AirPlay.

But, they have improved the quality on those platforms, and although iOS still won't AirPlay, with a £10 box to plug into your TV, who really needs that.

The Sky Now interface is really easy to navigate, and once the dynamic bitrate works out your broadband is good enough, the video quality at 720p HD is certainly nice.

Of course, I am happy paying £2,50 per month, but I suspect it will be different when the price goes up.
