Oh, I am well aware that bitrates are not the entire equation. It's what I deal with every day for my job.
But, I will also say that I have yet to meet anyone who has looked at the Now TV streams on the Now TV box and are able to tell them apart from Lovefilm or the BBC.
In fact, I have yet to meet anyone who can accurately tell me if a stream on Netflix has reached SuperHD yet
Sure, there certainly are people out there. Just like there are musicians that can tell when a 1/16th note is slightly flat on single violin within a symphony orchestra.
But the average person can not. I can't explain why you have such bad quality streams, and I will take your word for it that you do. But I don't, so I would also appreciate you to take my word for it

Ummm. Netflix Canada is still a second pay TV window distributor. They are not considered first window. They, like Netflix UK, and Lovefilm have a few small agreements with content providers to have first choice in payTV, but it is tiny. They are still well within the second pay TV window.
And believe you me. You really don't want to use Canada as a good example of IPTV. Bless that beautiful country, they have some magnificent cities, great mountains and stunning scenery, but the UK is eons ahead in IPTV. Sit their CBC against the BBC and see how they compare. Hell, sit CBC against Demand 5 and Channel 5 will probably still come out on top, and that is saying something!
Of course, the films may all be crap... this is all relative to personal taste. I personally don't find a lot in Now TV or Sky's latest for that matter, but I'm not really into blockbusters as much as art-house films.

As I said, I agree that the minimum should be HD for that price on all platforms.
But as I also said, I have yet to meet someone who can tell the difference between Now TV on my Now TV box and Lovefilm.
