I've just come home from work and tried to listen to a CD, but my amp appears to be dead. I've got a Marantz one which I've had for about 4 years.

The power light still comes on, but when I turn it on there is no 'click' of the relay switching which there used to be, and no sound comes out at all.

Is the amp dead? Any ideas why its doing this? I have had no problems at all in the 4 years I've had it, I tend to leave it powered up constantly, but I didn't think that was a problem, I've not had any parties recently so I doubt very much that it's been played too loud...

Any suggestions gratefully received,

Owain

I had a problem once with a Marantz P44se which did the same. A bit of simple investigation with the cover off revealed that a slow blow fuse had gone ping which is situated very near to th psu. Simply removing the fuse and a trip to your local friendly electronics type shop should furnish you with a shiny new fuse, just pop it in the amp put the cover on turn it on and enjoy.

If it goes again then there may be some other problem with the amp causing the fuse to go and may need a proper look at a repair shop.

Unfortunately the only fuse I could see still looks intact, its one of those glass ones, and the filaments is still whole.

Looks like its a trip to the HIFI shop then, unless anyone has any other ideas?

Cheers,
